Chef Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a chef in Minnesota?
Becoming a chef in Minnesota typically starts with completing a culinary arts program at a school like Saint Paul College, Hennepin Technical College, or Le Cordon Bleu's former Minneapolis campus, though many chefs enter through on-the-job training. Minnesota does not issue a state chef license, but most employers require a food safety certification such as ServSafe or a Minnesota Department of Health-recognized food manager credential before you can lead a kitchen.
Which companies hire chefs in Minnesota?
Employers hiring chefs in Minnesota right now include Eurest, Taher, and Wolfoods, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Minnesota's strong hospitality, healthcare, and corporate dining sectors mean openings appear regularly across hotel groups, health system cafeterias, and catering companies statewide.
Which Minnesota cities have the most chef jobs?
Minneapolis, Rochester, and Minnetonka lead Minnesota for chef openings. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro dominates because it anchors the state's restaurant industry, major hotel brands, and large corporate and university dining accounts, while Duluth's tourism economy and Rochester's concentration of Mayo Clinic food service operations sustain steady demand outside the Twin Cities.
Are there remote chef jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of chef openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting how hands-on most culinary roles are by nature. The exceptions tend to be corporate culinary consultant positions, recipe development roles, or food content creation jobs that do not require daily kitchen presence.
How can I get hired as a chef in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for prep cook or line cook positions at high-volume Minnesota employers like Compass Group or Sodexo, both of which regularly bring on entry-level kitchen staff and promote from within. Culinary apprenticeships through the American Culinary Federation's Minnesota chapter also offer structured paid training. Earning a ServSafe food manager certification from the Minnesota Department of Health before applying signals readiness and gives candidates a clear edge over those without any credential.
Where can I find and apply to chef jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to chef jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever ones fit.
