What You’ll Do
As a Security Operations Engineer at Brex, you will focus on preventing, detecting and responding to security threats across Brex's corporate and cloud environments. You will use existing systems and develop tools to improve our security capabilities. Our team is responsible for functions across corporate security, detection & response and infrastructure security domains; and we perform systems engineering and automation to support those functions. Security Operations is part of our wider Trust & IT organization which means you will have the opportunity to work closely with Application Security, Corporate Engineering, GRC and IT and to improve security configurations, drive positive employee behaviors and generally work to prevent events from becoming incidents. You will also help build and maintain our team’s open source project Substation and have the opportunity to contribute to the Brex Tech Blog. You’ll be part of a team that actively contributes to the wider security community and has a commitment to mentorship and engineering excellence. We’re looking for individuals with a strong background and interest in detecting, responding to, and resolving security incidents and security challenges. You should be comfortable dealing with lots of moving pieces, changing priorities, and new technologies, while having a keen eye for detail. Most importantly, you should be enthusiastic about working with a variety of backgrounds, roles, and people across Brex. Building a world-class financial service requires world-class security.
Where you’ll work
This role will be based in our New York office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!
Responsibilities
- Work on a highly cross-functional team to prevent, detect and respond to security threats across Brex's corporate and cloud environments
- Perform security incident response, investigation, remediation, and documentation, participate in periodic threat hunting and security exercises
- Leading, scoping and building features, participate in designing, and maintaining tools and systems which support the team’s domains – corporate security, detection & response and infrastructure security
- Collaborating and partnering with engineering and operations teams to drive remediation of security issues, while balancing prioritization of those security issues within SLA and teams’ respective backlogs
- Caring about secure system design, valuing building things correctly, an understanding of a MVP approach and an empathetic mindset when working with others
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field OR equivalent training / fellowship OR 5+ years work experience
- Experience working in a corporate security, detection & response or infrastructure security role with responsibilities for security alert triage and security incident response
- Familiarity with CI/CD systems and DevOps workflows (e.g. Buildkite, Flux, Git, Terraform) in cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with deploying and maintaining some of the security services and tools owned by the team (e.g. - SIEM, data pipelines, SOAR, domain monitoring, endpoint tooling, email protection tooling, cloud security tools)
- While not primarily a development role, the team develops and maintains tools written in Go and Python, so experience with coding is required
- You thrive in a collaborative environment filled with a diverse group of people with different expertise and backgrounds. We currently have around 30 nationalities represented with more than ½ the company working in a country different from the one they grew up in.
Bonus points
- Proficiency with Go and other programming languages
- Experience with securing distributed systems in AWS, cloud and Kubernetes environments
- Contributions to the wider technical community (open source, public research, mentorship, community organizing, blogging, presentations, etc)

Frame your resume around operational impact
Brex Operations roles lean heavily on process improvement, cross-functional coordination, and data-informed decision-making. Quantify outcomes in your resume, cost reductions, turnaround improvements, error rate changes, so hiring managers can see operational ownership, not just task completion.
Target roles labeled analytics or scaled operations
Brex frequently structures its Operations org around scaled and analytical functions tied to its financial products. Applying to roles with those labels puts you in the pipeline where sponsorship has historically been more consistent than in generalist support functions.
Browse open Operations roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Brex's Operations openings by visa type before you apply. That way you're only targeting roles where H-1B or OPT sponsorship has been confirmed, not spending time on applications that won't move forward.
Clarify sponsorship intent before the offer stage
Raise your visa situation during the hiring manager interview, not after the offer. Brex's recruiting process moves quickly, and surfacing your H-1B or OPT status early lets the team loop in HR before offer paperwork is drafted.
Time your application around your OPT cap-gap window
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT to H-1B, USCIS's cap-gap rule lets you stay authorized between OPT expiration and your H-1B start date. A Brex offer before the April H-1B registration window covers that gap if your employer files on time.
Understand how PERM affects green card timelines
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship at Brex requires DOL's PERM labor certification before USCIS adjudicates your petition. For Operations roles, that process typically spans one to two years before you even reach the I-140 filing stage, so start these conversations early.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Brex sponsor H-1B visas for Operations roles?
Yes, Brex sponsors H-1B visas for Operations positions. The company operates as a registered H-1B employer and has filed petitions for international workers in this function. Sponsorship availability depends on the specific role and team, so confirming visa support during the recruiter screen is the most reliable way to avoid wasted effort later in the process.
How do I apply for Operations jobs at Brex?
Applications go through Brex's careers page, where roles are listed by team and location. Before applying, use Migrate Mate to identify which open Operations positions are actively sponsoring visas. That filters your list down to roles where international candidates have a realistic path, saving you time and improving your targeting.
Which visa types does Brex commonly sponsor for Operations positions?
Brex sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Operations roles, and has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-tenured employees. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. OPT and CPT sponsorship makes Brex accessible to students still completing their degree or recently graduated.
What qualifications does Brex typically look for in Operations candidates?
Brex Operations roles generally require a bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field, though some analytical roles attract candidates with engineering or computer science backgrounds. Practical experience with process design, vendor or partner management, or financial operations workflows carries significant weight. Familiarity with SQL or data tools is frequently listed as a plus.
How do visa filing timelines affect the Operations hiring process at Brex?
For H-1B candidates, the annual USCIS registration window runs in March, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. If you're on OPT, your employer needs to file your H-1B petition before your OPT expires. For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, expect the DOL PERM process to add at least one to two years before USCIS receives your I-140 petition.
