Align your credentials to Florida licensure requirements
Clinical Assistant roles at UF often require state-level licensure or certification before a visa petition can move forward. Confirm your credentials meet Florida Department of Health requirements early, since USCIS won't approve an H-1B for a role you're not yet licensed to perform.
Target UF Health and academic department postings separately
University of Florida hires Clinical Assistants through both UF Health (the clinical enterprise) and individual academic departments. Each unit posts separately on the UF Careers portal, so searching only one stream means missing openings that match your specialty and sponsorship eligibility.
Clarify visa type fit before your first interview
UF sponsors multiple visa categories for clinical roles, including H-1B, E-3, TN, and J-1. Knowing which category applies to your nationality and role type before the interview lets you speak directly to fit, rather than leaving sponsorship questions unanswered until the offer stage.
Prepare for J-1 requirements if coming through a training program
UF frequently uses J-1 sponsorship for Clinical Assistants in residency-adjacent or fellowship-track roles. J-1 holders may face a two-year home residency requirement after program completion, which affects long-term visa planning if your goal is an H-1B or Green Card afterward.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Assistant openings by visa type
Filtering by role and sponsorship type at a large employer like UF saves significant time. Migrate Mate lets you surface Clinical Assistant postings at University of Florida that align with your specific visa category, so you're only pursuing roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome.
Understand PERM timing if you're pursuing permanent residence
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, UF must complete a DOL PERM labor certification before filing an immigrant petition. This process typically takes one to two years and must begin well before your nonimmigrant status expires, so raise long-term sponsorship intentions during offer negotiations, not after you've started.

Find Clinical Assistant at University of Florida JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Florida sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Assistants?
Yes, University of Florida sponsors H-1B visas for Clinical Assistant roles, particularly where the position requires a specialized degree in a field like health sciences, nursing, or a related clinical discipline. As a large public university and academic medical system, UF has an established process for H-1B filings through its international HR and immigration services office. You'll need a qualifying offer letter and relevant credentials before the petition can move forward.
How do I apply for Clinical Assistant jobs at University of Florida?
Applications go through the University of Florida's official careers portal at jobs.ufl.edu, where Clinical Assistant postings appear under UF Health and individual academic or research departments. You can also browse roles filtered by sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which surfaces UF Clinical Assistant openings relevant to your visa type. Tailor your application to the specific department's clinical focus, since requirements vary across oncology, primary care, and research settings.
Which visa types does University of Florida commonly use for Clinical Assistant roles?
University of Florida sponsors several visa categories for Clinical Assistants depending on your nationality, role type, and career stage. H-1B is the most common for specialty occupation roles. J-1 is frequently used for clinical training and fellowship-adjacent positions. E-3 applies to Australian nationals, and TN covers eligible Canadian and Mexican professionals. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students completing clinical rotations at UF-affiliated programs. EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas are available for longer-term permanent residence pathways.
What qualifications are expected for Clinical Assistant roles at University of Florida?
Requirements vary by department, but Clinical Assistant roles at UF typically require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a health-related field, with many positions expecting clinical certification or active Florida licensure. Roles embedded in UF Health or academic medical departments may also expect prior patient-facing experience or research support skills. For H-1B eligibility, the position must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning the degree requirement must be specific to the field, not general.
How do I plan my visa timeline when pursuing a Clinical Assistant role at UF?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date, which means your offer and LCA filing with the DOL need to be completed months in advance. UF is a cap-exempt employer as a nonprofit university, so H-1B petitions can be filed year-round without the lottery, giving you more flexibility. If you're on F-1 OPT, you have a 60-day grace period after your end date, so timing your start date carefully against your OPT expiration is critical.
