The Archdiocese of Philadelphia and its entities is a Roman Catholic religious organization and that all employees are expected to respect and conduct themselves in accordance with the values, teachings, and morals of the Roman Catholic Church.
Job purpose
Manages the financial planning, budgeting and accounting for Education entities in the Archdiocese including the secondary schools, schools of special education, and Office of Catholic Education.
Provides central services to the schools including purchasing, accounting, investments and cash management, facilities and fixed asset management.
Facilitates the development of all significant contracts, leases, and agreements for the schools.
Serves as a member of the senior staff of the Office of Catholic Education and as a liaison to other financial and temporal services functions within the Archdiocese. Serves on committees and boards as requested.
Duties and responsibilities

Manages the financial planning, budgeting, and accounting for Education entities including the Secondary Schools, Schools of Special Education, Office of Catholic Education, Office for Catechetical Formation, and Educational Financial Services.

Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the Chief Operating Officer, governing boards, and other senior executives in meeting their responsibilities.

Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives. Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range planning and introduction of new programs/strategies.

Provide strategic financial input, leadership and advice on issues affecting the organization and affiliates.

Establishes credibility throughout the organization and with governing boards as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.

Establishes and maintains strong relationships with central office staff, school leaders, and governing boards so as to identify their needs and seek the full range of business solutions.

Provides technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline including providing supervision and training to financial personnel in the schools.

Evaluates the finance teams’ structure and plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group to provide individuals with professional and personal growth.

Develops, enhances, implements and enforces financial policies and procedures.

Establishes procedures sufficient to assure compliance with financial laws, regulations, and requirements and to assure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standard business practices.

Serves as one of the individuals authorized to review and approve disbursements for the Office of Catholic Education entities.

Provides central services for the schools including purchasing, accounting, investments and cash management, payroll and employee benefits management, facilities and fixed assets management.

Manages cash management, banking relationships, and the investment portfolio to optimize performance.

Manages and plans the external audit of the OCE entities and the dissemination of financial reports as needed.

Manages risk management for the schools in coordination with the Insurance staff.

Facilities a financial review of all significant contracts, leases and agreements coordinating as needed with other offices and parties.

Oversees school facility management, capital improvement projects and school real estate transactions.

Assists in the management of human resources activities to include benefits, talent acquisition and compensation, management and development. Participates in labor negotiations.

Selects and manages all financially related software and business systems.

Serves as staff to the Finance Committee, coordinating meetings and materials with the committee chair.

Serves as a member of the senior staff of the Chief Operating Officer and as a liaison to other Archdiocesan financial and temporal services offices. Serves on committees and boards as requested.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Management or related field.

High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency when needed and a results orientation.

Proficient in the use of computer software (Word, Excel, Accounting, Payroll Software Applications, etc.)
Experience: 10 years’ experience in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in school administration.
Working conditions
Frequent travel to schools and responsibilities that go beyond typical office hours.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 lbs.
