Food Service Manager Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a food service manager in Washington?
Washington does not require a state-issued manager license beyond the Food Worker Card issued by the Washington State Department of Health, but most employers expect an associate or bachelor's degree in hospitality management, culinary arts, or a related field. ServSafe Food Manager Certification is widely required and recognized by Washington health departments. Candidates who combine that certification with hands-on supervisory experience in a licensed Washington food establishment are consistently the most competitive.
Which companies hire food service managers in Washington?
Employers hiring food service managers in Washington right now include Chartwells K12, Haggen Northwest Fresh, and Pioneer Human Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's large healthcare systems, university dining programs, and regional restaurant groups are among the most consistent sources of full-time management openings in the state.
Which Washington cities have the most food service manager jobs?
The cities with the most food service manager openings in Washington are Bothell, Seattle, and Bellingham. Seattle drives the largest share of listings because of its dense concentration of full-service restaurants, hotel food programs, and corporate dining accounts, while Tacoma and Spokane generate steady demand through regional hospital systems, school districts, and growing quick-service operations.
Are there remote food service manager jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're rare. Food service management is an inherently hands-on, on-site role, and most Washington employers require a physical presence to oversee kitchen staff, health inspections, and daily operations. About 33% of food service manager openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to be in regional or district management roles where administrative oversight is handled off-site.
How can I get hired as a food service manager in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a lead cook, shift supervisor, or assistant manager role within an existing Washington food service operation. Large contract dining employers such as Compass Group and Sodexo run internal management development programs that promote from within at their Washington accounts. Completing the ServSafe Food Manager Certification strengthens any application, and Washington community colleges such as Seattle Central offer hospitality management programs with externships at local food service sites that lead directly to supervisory offers.
Where can I find and apply to food service manager jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to food service manager jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
