HR Director Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hr director in Texas?
Most hr directors in Texas begin with a bachelor's degree in human resources or business administration, then build seven to ten years of progressive generalist or specialist experience before stepping into a director role. Texas does not require a state-issued license to practice HR, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification. Earning one of those credentials through SHRM or HRCI signals the technical depth and strategic readiness Texas hiring managers expect at the director level.
How much do HR directors make in Texas?
HR directors in Texas earn a median of about $136,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $83,200 for the lowest 10% to over $226,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hr directors in Texas?
Employers hiring hr directors in Texas right now include Houston Methodist, CHRISTUS Health, and Fort Worth Independent School District, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy majors, large health systems, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters means demand for experienced HR leadership stays relatively steady throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most hr director jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most hr director openings in Texas. Houston's dominance reflects its concentration of energy companies, large health systems, and international corporate offices, while Dallas draws volume from financial services firms, technology companies, and major retail and logistics headquarters, and Austin's rapid tech and government sector growth has made it an increasingly competitive market for senior HR leadership.
Are there remote hr director jobs in Texas?
Yes, though they represent a minority of openings because hr directors typically lead on-site teams, manage in-person employee relations, and partner closely with executive leadership. About 14% of hr director openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements more common than fully remote. The parts of the role most likely to allow flexibility are talent strategy, policy development, and HRIS administration rather than day-to-day workforce management.
How can I get hired as a hr director in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a director role from a senior HR business partner, HR manager, or senior generalist position rather than applying directly without director-level experience. Large Texas employers such as health systems in the Houston Medical Center, state agencies, and major retailers headquartered in the Dallas area regularly post HR manager and senior HR business partner openings that serve as direct pipelines to director roles. Earning your SHRM-CP or PHR while in a manager-level position gives you a concrete, employer-recognized signal that you're ready to step up.
Where can I find and apply to hr director jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to hr director jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and target industry, and apply directly to the ones that match.
