Human Resources Manager Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources manager in Washington?
Most human resources managers in Washington enter the field with a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related discipline, then build several years of generalist or specialist experience before moving into management. Washington does not require a state-issued license to work in HR, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification from the Society for Human Resource Management, or PHR and SPHR credentials from HRCI. Both organizations offer recognized professional development aligned with Washington employment law.
How much do human resources managers make in Washington?
Human resources managers in Washington earn a median of about $165,530 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $108,830 for the lowest 10% to over $271,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire human resources managers in Washington?
Employers hiring human resources managers in Washington right now include Target, Securitas, and City Of Renton, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of large tech companies, aerospace manufacturers, and major healthcare systems means ongoing HR manager demand across multiple industries statewide.
Which Washington cities have the most human resources manager jobs?
Seattle, Tacoma, and Renton have the most human resources manager openings in Washington. Seattle and Bellevue drive the largest share of postings because of the dense cluster of technology firms and corporate headquarters in the Puget Sound region, while Tacoma's volume reflects its growing healthcare sector and proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, which generates substantial civilian HR activity.
Are there remote human resources manager jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than many management roles, because human resources managers who focus on policy, compliance, HRIS administration, and talent acquisition can do much of their work without being on site. About 47% of human resources manager openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the flexibility that Washington's tech-heavy employer base has normalized. Employee relations work that involves in-person investigations or direct workforce management tends to remain on site.
How can I get hired as a human resources manager in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting in an HR coordinator or HR generalist role, then building toward management over two to four years. Large Washington employers such as Providence Health, Boeing, and the state's major public university systems run structured rotational or associate HR programs that develop candidates without prior management experience. Lateral moves from benefits administration, recruiting coordination, or payroll specialist roles are common stepping stones. Completing a SHRM-CP certification before your first dedicated HR role gives Washington applicants a measurable edge in competitive screening.
Where can I find and apply to human resources manager jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to human resources manager jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
