Marketing Director Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketing director in Minnesota?
Marketing directors in Minnesota do not require a state-issued license, but most employers expect a bachelor's degree in marketing or business alongside several years of progressively responsible experience. Many candidates build toward the role through positions in brand management, digital marketing, or product marketing at Minnesota's large consumer and healthcare companies. An MBA from institutions like the University of Minnesota's Carlson School is a common differentiator for candidates seeking director-level roles at major headquarters.
How much do marketing directors make in Minnesota?
Marketing directors in Minnesota earn a median of about $173,300 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $103,160 for the lowest 10% to over $303,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire marketing directors in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring marketing directors in Minnesota include Evolve Senior Living, Diasorin, and Lifespark, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in sectors like retail, food and beverage, and financial services means director-level openings emerge regularly rather than only during growth cycles.
Which Minnesota cities have the most marketing director jobs?
Minneapolis, Plymouth, and Richfield hold the most marketing director openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives the majority of listings because Target, Best Buy, General Mills, and UnitedHealth Group all maintain large marketing departments there, while Rochester's volume is supported primarily by Mayo Clinic and its affiliated health system partners.
Are there remote marketing director jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 78% of marketing director openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role relies on digital tools, content strategy, and analytics work that travels well outside an office. Brand stewardship and agency oversight responsibilities tend to have the strongest remote flexibility, while roles tied to in-store or event marketing typically require a local presence.
How can I get hired as a marketing director in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a director role from a senior manager or associate director position built up inside a large Minnesota employer. Companies like Target, General Mills, and Optum run structured marketing rotational and leadership development programs that prepare high-performing candidates for director responsibilities without requiring outside experience. Building a portfolio of measurable campaign results, earning a Google Analytics or HubSpot certification, and targeting brand or digital marketing manager roles at mid-size Minnesota firms are concrete steps that shorten the timeline.
Where can I find and apply to marketing director jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to marketing director jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and goals, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
