Materials Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a materials manager in Texas?
Most materials manager roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or industrial engineering combined with progressive experience in procurement or inventory control. Texas does not issue a state license for this role, but the APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management credential is widely expected by Texas manufacturers, aerospace contractors, and energy companies. Starting as a buyer, inventory analyst, or production planner at a Texas industrial employer and earning APICS certification is the most direct path.
How much do materials managers make in Texas?
Materials managers in Texas earn a median of about $134,670 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $86,340 for the lowest 10% to over $212,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire materials managers in Texas?
Employers hiring materials managers in Texas right now include Applied Materials, Heidelberg Materials Us, Inc. (Formerly Known As Lehigh Hanson, Inc.), and MP Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of aerospace primes, petrochemical facilities, and large-scale distribution centers means demand for materials managers stays active across multiple sectors year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most materials manager jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Fort Worth have the most materials manager openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense petrochemical, energy, and port logistics infrastructure, Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from its headquarters concentration and major distribution networks, and San Antonio contributes through its defense manufacturing and military logistics base at Joint Base San Antonio.
Are there remote materials manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Materials management is largely a hands-on role requiring physical oversight of inventory, warehouses, and supplier visits, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 3% of materials manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to concentrate in the procurement analysis and vendor management portions of the job rather than the floor-level operations.
How can I get hired as a materials manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for buyer, inventory coordinator, or materials planner roles at Texas manufacturers or defense contractors, then advancing internally. Large Texas employers such as Lockheed Martin and Raytheon operate structured rotational supply chain programs that bring in candidates with limited direct experience. Earning an APICS CPIM certification before applying gives candidates a measurable edge, and a degree from a Texas university with an accredited supply chain program strengthens applications further.
Where can I find and apply to materials manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to materials manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries including manufacturing, energy, aerospace, and logistics. Find roles that match your experience and location and apply directly from each listing.
