Outside Sales Representative Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a outside sales representative in Pennsylvania?
Outside sales representatives in Pennsylvania do not need a state-issued license for most industries, but roles in insurance sales require a Pennsylvania Property and Casualty or Life and Health license issued through the Pennsylvania Insurance Department. For all other sectors, the typical path is a bachelor's degree in business or a related field combined with an internship or entry-level account management role at a Pennsylvania-based company. Strong product knowledge in the employer's specific industry, such as manufacturing, healthcare, or technology, is the most consistent hiring requirement.
How much do outside sales representatives make in Pennsylvania?
Outside sales representatives in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $66,130 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,980 for the lowest 10% to over $132,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire outside sales representatives in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring outside sales representatives in Pennsylvania right now include Hibu, Buffalo Biodiesel, and Leaf Home, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services companies creates steady year-round demand for outside sales talent across the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most outside sales representative jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg have the most outside sales representative openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia drives the highest volume given its density of corporate headquarters, healthcare systems, and financial services firms, while Pittsburgh's manufacturing and technology sectors sustain strong regional demand, and Allentown serves as a hub for industrial and logistics companies operating in the Lehigh Valley corridor.
Are there remote outside sales representative jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. Outside sales by definition requires face-to-face client meetings and territory travel, so fully remote roles are limited. About 65% of outside sales representative openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those are most commonly found in technology and software sales where initial prospecting and demos can be conducted virtually before an in-person close.
How can I get hired as a outside sales representative in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an inside sales representative or sales development representative at a Pennsylvania employer, then transitioning to an outside role after demonstrating performance. Large Pennsylvania-based companies like Comcast and AmerisourceBergen run structured sales associate programs that recruit candidates without direct field experience. Lateral moves from customer success, retail management, or account coordination roles are also well-accepted. Obtaining a Pennsylvania insurance license through the Pennsylvania Insurance Department adds a measurable credential that opens additional employer options in the financial and benefits sales segments.
Where can I find and apply to outside sales representative jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to outside sales representative jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings from employers hiring now. Find roles that fit your experience and target region, then apply directly to each one.
