Outside Sales Representative Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an outside sales representative in Texas?
Most Texas employers hire outside sales representatives based on demonstrated sales performance and a bachelor's degree rather than a state-issued license. Exceptions include pharmaceutical sales, where a Texas-registered pharmacy or medical device background helps, and real estate or insurance sales, which require a Texas Department of Insurance license or a Texas Real Estate Commission license respectively. Starting in an inside sales or account coordinator role at a Texas company and converting to a field position is one of the most common paths.
How much do outside sales representatives make in Texas?
Outside sales representatives in Texas earn a median of about $65,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,380 for the lowest 10% to over $137,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire outside sales representatives in Texas?
Employers hiring outside sales representatives in Texas right now include UniFirst, Sunbelt Rentals, and Applied Industrial Technologies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, healthcare, and logistics firms means consistent demand for territory and account-based field sales roles across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most outside sales representative jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Beaumont have the most outside sales representative openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its energy, industrial, and medical center industries, Dallas draws technology and distribution employers headquartered in the Metroplex, and San Antonio's growing healthcare and manufacturing sectors keep demand steady for field sales professionals covering south and central Texas territories.
Are there remote outside sales representative jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Outside sales is inherently field-based, requiring in-person client visits and territory management, so most roles expect regular windshield time. About 8% of outside sales representative openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be senior account executive or national account manager positions where relationship management happens over video rather than in person.
How can I get hired as an outside sales representative in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an inside sales or sales development representative role at a Texas-based company, where you build pipeline skills before moving to a field territory. Large Texas employers like Sysco, Cintas, and ADP run structured sales associate programs that train new hires without prior field experience. Completing a relevant certification such as a HubSpot sales credential or pursuing a Texas Department of Insurance license for an insurance sales track gives candidates a measurable edge when competing for first outside roles.
Where can I find and apply to outside sales representative jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to outside sales representative jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and metro areas. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and territory preference, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
