Patient Service Representative Jobs in District of Columbia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a patient service representative in District of Columbia?
Most patient service representative positions in District of Columbia require a high school diploma and completion of a medical administrative or healthcare management program, which is offered at institutions such as the University of the District of Columbia Community College. No DC-specific state license is required for the role, but employers strongly prefer candidates who have completed a medical terminology course and hold a current CPR certification. Familiarity with DC Health regulations and local Medicaid managed care plans gives applicants a concrete edge.
Which companies hire patient service representatives in District of Columbia?
District of Columbia patient service representative roles are posted by Children's National Hospital, DaVita, and Kaiser Permanente and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The District's concentration of academic medical centers and federally contracted healthcare providers means openings appear consistently across large health systems with multiple DC-area campuses.
Which District of Columbia cities have the most patient service representative jobs?
Washington have the most patient service representative openings in District of Columbia. Washington DC itself drives the majority of postings because the city hosts a dense concentration of hospital systems, specialty clinics, and federally affiliated health programs, while surrounding employment centers reflect the overflow demand from large health networks operating multiple campuses across the metro.
Are there remote patient service representative jobs in District of Columbia?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely administrative fields because many patient service representative duties, such as greeting patients and collecting documents, require an on-site presence. About 8% of patient service representative openings tied to District of Columbia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and the roles most often offered remotely are insurance verification, prior authorization follow-up, and telephone scheduling.
How can I get hired as a patient service representative in District of Columbia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a medical receptionist or patient access associate role at one of DC's large health systems, which routinely hire candidates without prior clinical experience and provide on-the-job training. MedStar Health and Children's National run structured onboarding programs for entry-level patient-facing staff, and UDC Community College offers a Medical Administrative Assistant certificate that DC employers recognize. A completed medical terminology course and a Washington DC Medicaid enrollment awareness add measurable credibility for first-time applicants.
Where can I find and apply to patient service representative jobs in District of Columbia?
