Retail Sales Representative Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a retail sales representative in Tennessee?
Most retail sales representative roles in Tennessee require a high school diploma or equivalent and no state-issued license. Entry begins with an application to a retailer's hourly or associate-level floor position. For roles selling regulated products such as insurance-linked warranties or securities-adjacent financial products, candidates may need to obtain a Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance registration before advising customers. Building product knowledge and completing any employer-provided onboarding training accelerates advancement into full sales representative titles.
Which companies hire retail sales representatives in Tennessee?
Companies currently hiring retail sales representatives in Tennessee include Cellular Sales, Verizon Authorized Retailer, CE Workforce (T-Mobile, TPR), and 2020 Companies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's dense concentration of AutoZone and Dollar General corporate operations, combined with Tractor Supply Co.'s Brentwood headquarters, makes the state a particularly active market for retail sales hiring year-round.
Which Tennessee cities have the most retail sales representative jobs?
Nashville, Springfield, and Memphis have the most retail sales representative openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because its rapid population growth has attracted major retail corridors and corporate retail headquarters, Memphis draws volume through its distribution and consumer goods sector, and Knoxville benefits from strong regional anchor retailers and the University of Tennessee's large consumer base driving specialty and electronics sales demand.
Are there remote retail sales representative jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. Retail sales representative work is largely in-person by nature, requiring floor presence, product demonstrations, and direct customer interaction. About 0% of retail sales representative openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in inside sales, phone-based account management, or B2B territory roles that do not require a physical store presence.
How can I get hired as a retail sales representative in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to part-time or seasonal associate roles at large Tennessee-based retailers such as AutoZone or Tractor Supply Co., which regularly hire candidates without prior sales experience and provide structured product training. Customer service roles at big-box stores or call-center positions for consumer brands are strong lateral moves that hiring managers recognize as relevant. Completing a free retail sales certificate through Tennessee College of Applied Technology programs gives candidates a documented credential that stands out in entry-level applicant pools.
