Which construction companies sponsor H-1B visas in Indiana?
Several mid-to-large construction firms in Indiana have filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications in the past, including Pepper Construction, Shiel Sexton, Hagerman Group, and Messer Construction. National engineering and construction management firms such as AECOM, Jacobs, and Turner Construction also maintain offices in Indiana and have established H-1B sponsorship histories for qualifying professional roles.
Which cities in Indiana have the most construction H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the largest share of construction H-1B activity in Indiana, driven by commercial development, hospital construction, and public infrastructure projects. Fort Wayne and South Bend also see consistent activity, particularly in industrial and manufacturing facility construction. The northwest Indiana region, benefiting from its proximity to the Chicago metropolitan market, attracts additional project work and sponsoring employers.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in construction is generally limited to specialty occupation roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. This typically includes civil engineers, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, construction project managers with engineering degrees, cost estimators with accredited technical degrees, and BIM or VDC specialists. Field laborer and general foreman positions generally do not qualify because they do not require a specific bachelor's degree.
How do I find construction H-1B sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters construction roles in Indiana that are open to H-1B sponsorship, saving you from manually screening hundreds of listings. You can filter by state, visa type, and industry to surface relevant roles from firms that have a documented history of sponsoring H-1B workers in construction and engineering. This is significantly more efficient than broad job searches.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in construction?
Indiana does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements beyond standard federal H-1B rules, but construction project timelines matter. H-1B petitions tied to project-based roles require employers to demonstrate continuing need throughout the petition period. Indiana's construction sector is heavily project-driven, so candidates should confirm with prospective employers that their role is tied to ongoing operations or a long-term program rather than a single short-term contract.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B construction jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
