Which medical devices companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Texas?
Several major medical devices employers in Texas have a history of hiring F-1 OPT workers, including Becton Dickinson (based in the Dallas area), Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Philips Healthcare, which maintain manufacturing, R&D, and commercial operations across the state. Smaller contract manufacturers and medical device startups in the Texas Medical Center in Houston also participate in OPT hiring, particularly for engineering and quality roles.
Which cities in Texas have the most medical devices F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Dallas-Fort Worth leads the state for medical devices OPT opportunities, partly due to the regional headquarters of several large device companies and a strong manufacturing base. Houston is a close second, anchored by the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world. Austin has a growing presence driven by medtech startups and R&D teams, while San Antonio has smaller but active device manufacturing operations.
What types of medical devices roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that align with STEM-designated degree programs qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, which is a significant advantage in medical devices. Commonly eligible positions include quality engineer, regulatory affairs specialist, biomedical engineer, manufacturing engineer, R&D engineer, and process development scientist. Clinical specialist and field sales roles may qualify for standard 12-month OPT but typically do not qualify for the STEM extension unless the position is formally designated as STEM-adjacent.
How do I find medical devices F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by visa type and industry, making it straightforward to search for medical devices F-1 OPT positions across Texas cities. Because sponsorship eligibility is embedded in the search, you avoid applying to roles where OPT is not supported. Migrate Mate lists verified openings at Texas-based device companies, so you can focus on employers who are already equipped to onboard OPT workers.
Are there any Texas-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in medical devices?
Texas has no state income tax, which is a practical consideration for OPT workers comparing offers. Within the industry, many medical devices roles in Texas involve regulated manufacturing environments where employers must verify work authorization carefully under FDA quality system requirements, so employers are generally familiar with OPT documentation. Students pursuing STEM OPT extensions must have a formal training plan (Form I-983) completed with their employer, which larger Texas device companies typically have processes in place to support.
