Which construction companies sponsor E-3 visas in Virginia?
Several large general contractors and engineering firms operating in Virginia have a track record of H-1B and E-3 sponsorship, including Clark Construction, Skanska USA, Turner Construction, and Balfour Beatty. Multinational engineering consultancies such as AECOM, WSP, and Jacobs also maintain Virginia offices and regularly sponsor specialty occupation roles. Smaller regional firms sponsor less frequently, so targeting larger organizations with established immigration processes is generally more productive.
Which cities in Virginia have the most construction E-3 sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly Arlington, Tysons, and Reston, accounts for the largest share of E-3-eligible construction roles due to proximity to federal government projects and dense commercial development. Richmond is a secondary market with active infrastructure and mixed-use construction activity. Virginia Beach and Norfolk also see engineering and project management hiring tied to defense-adjacent construction work along the Hampton Roads corridor.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it must normally require at least a U.S. bachelor's degree or equivalent in a specific field. In construction, roles that commonly meet this standard include structural engineer, civil engineer, geotechnical engineer, project engineer, construction project manager with an engineering or architecture degree, and building information modeling (BIM) specialist. General site supervision or trades roles typically do not qualify.
How do I find construction E-3 sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is specifically built for this search. You can filter by visa type (E-3), industry (construction), and state (Virginia) to see live job listings from employers willing to sponsor Australian nationals. This saves considerable time compared to manually screening employers. Because not every construction firm in Virginia advertises sponsorship willingness upfront, using a platform that pre-filters for E-3 sponsorship is the most direct way to identify genuine opportunities.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for E-3 construction sponsorship?
Virginia's proximity to Washington D.C. means many large construction projects are federally funded or contracted, which can introduce additional compliance requirements for employers, including prevailing wage obligations under the Davis-Bacon Act. These requirements overlap with the Labor Condition Application process already required for E-3 sponsorship, so employers experienced with federal contracting are often more familiar with the sponsorship process than purely private-sector firms.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 construction jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
