Which construction companies sponsor H-1B visas in Washington?
Large general contractors and engineering firms with Washington offices are the most consistent H-1B sponsors in construction. Turner Construction, Skanska USA, Mortenson, Kiewit, and AECOM have all filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications for Washington-based roles. Specialty engineering consultancies supporting Sound Transit and WSDOT infrastructure programs also appear regularly in DOL disclosure data as sponsors.
Which cities in Washington have the most construction H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Seattle accounts for the majority of construction H-1B sponsorship activity in Washington, driven by dense commercial development, light rail expansion, and major tech-campus construction by companies like Amazon and Microsoft. Bellevue and Redmond have seen significant growth as the Eastside corridor develops. Tacoma and Spokane have a smaller but active presence, primarily tied to public infrastructure and healthcare facility projects.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in construction requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Roles that consistently meet this standard include structural engineers, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, construction project managers with engineering degrees, and BIM coordinators. General site supervision or labor roles do not qualify under H-1B.
How do I find construction H-1B sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship type and industry, making it straightforward to browse construction H-1B roles in Washington without sorting through employers who do not sponsor. You can narrow results by location, role type, and company to focus on Seattle metro opportunities or statewide infrastructure projects. Migrate Mate sources listings from employers with confirmed H-1B sponsorship histories.
Are there Washington-specific factors that affect H-1B sponsorship in construction?
Washington's prevailing wage requirements under DOL rules apply statewide, but the Seattle metro area typically falls into higher wage levels given its elevated cost of living, which affects LCA filings. Washington also has no state income tax, which is a factor in total compensation comparisons. The volume of public works tied to Sound Transit's long-term expansion plan has sustained demand for technically credentialed construction professionals eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B construction jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
