Tips for Finding H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in Washington
Target the Seattle-Bellevue-Redmond corridor first
The greater Seattle metro holds the highest concentration of H-1B sponsors in Washington. Companies headquartered or with major offices in Bellevue, Redmond, and Seattle file the largest volume of H-1B petitions in the state each year.
Search by employer history, not just job title
H-1B sponsorship willingness varies by company, not just role. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Washington employers with a verified track record of H-1B filings, which saves time compared to applying broadly and asking each employer individually.
Look beyond the largest tech companies
Microsoft and Amazon dominate H-1B filing numbers, but mid-size software firms, biotech startups, and healthcare systems across Washington also sponsor regularly. Broadening your search beyond the household names increases your pool significantly.
Align your role with the H-1B specialty occupation definition
To qualify for H-1B sponsorship, your role must require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles in software development, data science, engineering, and clinical research in Washington consistently meet this standard.
Consider Washington's life sciences and aerospace sectors
Beyond tech, Washington has a significant concentration of biotech and aerospace employers, including companies in the Puget Sound region. These industries sponsor H-1B workers in scientific, research, and engineering roles at meaningful volumes.
Apply well before the H-1B cap registration window
H-1B cap registrations open in March each year. Securing a job offer and having your employer prepared before that window requires starting your Washington job search several months in advance, ideally by late fall of the prior year.

Which industries in Washington sponsor the most H-1B visas?
Technology is by far the largest H-1B visa sponsoring industry in Washington, driven by companies in software, cloud computing, and e-commerce centered in the Seattle metro. Life sciences and biotech, aerospace and defense, and healthcare systems also generate substantial H-1B sponsorship activity across the state.
Which cities in Washington have the most H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond account for the overwhelming majority of H-1B sponsorship jobs in Washington. Redmond is home to Microsoft's headquarters, while Seattle and Bellevue host Amazon, along with hundreds of mid-size tech and healthcare employers. Spokane and Tacoma have smaller but active sponsorship markets, primarily in healthcare and engineering.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Washington?
In Washington, H-1B sponsorship is most common in software engineering, cloud architecture, data science, product management, electrical engineering, biomedical research, and clinical informatics. These roles consistently require a specific bachelor's degree or higher, which is the core requirement for H-1B specialty occupation classification under USCIS guidelines.
How do I find H-1B sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate lets you search Washington job listings filtered specifically by H-1B sponsorship availability, so you're not wasting time on roles where the employer won't sponsor. Alongside that, reviewing DOL LCA disclosure data shows which Washington employers have filed recently, giving you a concrete list of companies to target directly.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
