Account Executive Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an account executive in Virginia?
Most account executive roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related discipline, though no state-issued license is required for the role itself. Candidates who pursue formal sales training programs, earn a Certified Professional Sales Person credential, or build experience in business development or inside sales roles are most competitive. Northern Virginia's dense technology and federal contracting market means familiarity with government procurement cycles gives candidates a meaningful edge when applying to established defense and IT services firms.
Which companies hire account executives in Virginia?
Employers hiring account executives in Virginia right now include Salesforce, Comcast, and T-Mobile, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors and enterprise technology firms means many of these employers are specifically seeking account executives with public sector or government sales experience.
Which Virginia cities have the most account executive jobs?
Richmond, McLean, and Arlington have the most account executive openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia drives the bulk of demand due to its dense cluster of federal contractors, cybersecurity firms, and enterprise technology companies headquartered in and around Tysons, Reston, and Arlington, while Richmond and Hampton Roads contribute consistent openings tied to financial services, healthcare IT, and defense.
Are there remote account executive jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and they are relatively common, since account executive work is fundamentally a communication and relationship-management role that travels well to remote settings. About 79% of account executive openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting broad employer flexibility for experienced candidates. Client-facing enterprise and SaaS account roles are the most frequently listed as fully remote or hybrid.
How can I get hired as an account executive in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a business development representative or inside sales associate role, which Virginia's technology and defense contracting firms regularly use as a pipeline into full account executive positions. Large Northern Virginia employers like Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos run rotational and early-career programs that place candidates in client-facing roles. Building proficiency in a CRM platform and earning a foundational sales certification strengthens any application, and moving laterally from customer success or account management coordinator roles is a well-established route into the position.
