Account Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a account manager in Virginia?
Account management in Virginia does not require a state-issued license or board registration. Most Virginia employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field alongside documented client-facing experience. In Northern Virginia's dominant federal contracting sector, holding or being eligible for a security clearance significantly strengthens a candidacy. Entry-level candidates often move into the role from inside sales, customer success, or business development coordinator positions with Virginia-based firms.
How much do account managers make in Virginia?
Account managers in Virginia earn a median of about $72,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,700 for the lowest 10% to over $169,610 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account managers in Virginia?
Companies currently hiring account managers in Virginia include Amazon Web Services, Ruppert Companies, and Ruppert Landscape, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's deep concentration of federal contractors and technology services firms means account management openings are particularly consistent across Northern Virginia's Tysons, Reston, and Herndon corridors.
Which Virginia cities have the most account manager jobs?
Richmond, Arlington, and Virginia Beach have the most account manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia leads because it is home to the largest cluster of federal contractors and technology companies in the state, while Richmond draws openings from financial services, healthcare systems, and regional corporate headquarters, and Virginia Beach reflects demand from defense contractors and commercial services firms operating along the Hampton Roads corridor.
Are there remote account manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many fields, because account management is fundamentally a communications and relationship role that translates well to remote formats. About 67% of account manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely employers have adopted flexible arrangements for this function. Strategic and enterprise account roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while field-based or government-site positions typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a account manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative or customer success associate role at a Virginia technology or professional services firm, where promotion into account management is a structured career step. Large Northern Virginia employers like Leidos and Booz Allen Hamilton run rotational and new-graduate programs that feed directly into client-facing roles. Building familiarity with Salesforce and completing a HubSpot or Google sales certification strengthens an application when direct experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to account manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to account manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings updated regularly. Search through the roles on this page, identify the ones that fit your background and target region, and apply directly to each position that matches.
