Align your credentials to U.S. standards
If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization before applying. University of Miami's HR team references these evaluations when assessing H-1B specialty occupation eligibility for Operations roles.
Target roles with a defined degree requirement
H-1B eligibility hinges on the position qualifying as a specialty occupation. Focus on Operations postings that specify a required bachelor's degree in a relevant field, not roles where any degree will do, as those may not support sponsorship.
Search Operations openings through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters jobs by visa type and employer sponsorship history, so you can surface University of Miami Operations roles most likely to support international hires rather than sorting through postings manually.
Ask about sponsorship before your final interview
University of Miami routes sponsorship decisions through central HR, not individual hiring managers. Raising visa support early in the process, ideally before an offer is extended, avoids delays once the hiring manager is already committed to your candidacy.
Understand how OPT bridges to H-1B in higher education
Universities are cap-exempt H-1B employers, meaning they can file year-round without waiting for the April lottery. If you're on F-1 OPT, a direct transition to H-1B at a cap-exempt institution like University of Miami is significantly more predictable than at a private-sector employer.

Find Operations at University of Miami JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Miami sponsor H-1B visas for Operations roles?
Yes. University of Miami is a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means it can file H-1B petitions with USCIS at any point in the year without entering the annual lottery. This applies to qualifying Operations positions that meet the specialty occupation standard, typically roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field related to the position.
How do I apply for Operations jobs at University of Miami?
Applications are submitted through the University of Miami's official careers portal. You can also browse Operations openings filtered by sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify roles where international candidates have historically been considered. Tailor your application to the specific operational function, whether facilities, logistics, or administrative services, since hiring is decentralized across departments.
Which visa types does University of Miami commonly use for Operations positions?
University of Miami sponsors a range of visa categories for Operations hires, including H-1B for specialty occupation roles, TN for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations, J-1 for exchange visitors in structured programs, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing degree requirements. Immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 are available for longer-term hires going through PERM labor certification with the DOL.
What qualifications does University of Miami expect for sponsored Operations roles?
Expectations vary by function, but most sponsored Operations positions require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, supply chain management, public administration, or a related discipline. Roles in facilities or project management may also require professional certifications. Experience in a higher education or similarly complex institutional environment is frequently listed as preferred, particularly for positions involving compliance or cross-departmental coordination.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for Operations hires at University of Miami?
For H-1B, standard USCIS processing runs three to six months from petition filing, though the university can request premium processing from USCIS for a faster decision. Because University of Miami is cap-exempt, there's no lottery wait. For employment-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, expect at least 12 to 18 months for PERM labor certification alone before your I-140 petition is filed with USCIS.
