How do you become a customer marketing manager in Illinois?
Most customer marketing manager roles in Illinois require a bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or communications, though no state-issued license applies to the role. Illinois employers typically look for candidates who have progressed through coordinator or specialist roles before moving into management. Building experience with CRM systems, email marketing platforms, and customer segmentation while in earlier roles is the most consistent path to qualifying for manager-level positions in the state.
How much do customer marketing managers make in Illinois?
Customer marketing managers in Illinois earn a median of about $162,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $95,990 for the lowest 10% to over $276,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire customer marketing managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring customer marketing managers in Illinois right now include BCU, Coveo, and Shure, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and major regional retail and financial services brands means the hiring pool is broad and relatively consistent throughout the year.
Which Illinois cities have the most customer marketing manager jobs?
Chicago, Deerfield, and Niles have the most customer marketing manager openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the majority of listings given its density of corporate headquarters in financial services, retail, and consumer goods, while suburban hubs like Schaumburg and Downers Grove generate additional volume from large regional employers based in the Chicago metro's outer ring.
Are there remote customer marketing manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields, since customer marketing work centers on strategy, data analysis, and digital campaign management that translates well to remote environments. About 75% of customer marketing manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly desk-based and collaborative the role has become. Lifecycle marketing and email-focused positions tend to carry the highest rate of fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a customer marketing manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a marketing coordinator or customer success associate role at a mid-size Illinois employer and building CRM and campaign experience from there. Large Illinois-based retailers and financial services firms frequently post associate marketing roles that serve as feeders into customer marketing teams. A portfolio showing email campaign results, customer segmentation work, or loyalty program contributions gives candidates without formal manager experience a concrete edge during the Illinois hiring process.
