Human Resources Assistant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources assistant in New York?
The most direct path is completing an associate or bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field, then applying to entry-level HR coordinator or administrative roles. New York does not require a state-issued license to work as a human resources assistant, but employers in the state consistently favor candidates who have completed SHRM or HRCI coursework. Familiarity with New York State labor law, including paid family leave and wage theft provisions, strengthens any application.
How much do human resources assistants make in New York?
Human resources assistants in New York earn a median of about $52,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,000 for the lowest 10% to over $73,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire human resources assistants in New York?
Employers hiring human resources assistants in New York right now include Abercrombie & Fitch, Columbia University, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, hospital networks, and large university systems means HR assistant demand stays relatively consistent throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most human resources assistant jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Bronx have the most human resources assistant openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of corporate headquarters, major hospital systems, and financial services firms, while secondary markets like White Plains and Buffalo carry volume from regional employers, healthcare networks, and state government offices headquartered outside the metro area.
Are there remote human resources assistant jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 4% of human resources assistant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on digital recordkeeping, HRIS data entry, and virtual onboarding coordination. Tasks requiring in-person presence, such as I-9 verification or new-hire orientation, are typically the exception rather than the full scope of these roles.
How can I get hired as a human resources assistant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying to administrative assistant or receptionist roles inside HR departments at large New York employers such as hospital networks, city agencies, or university systems, then moving laterally once you understand the workflow. NYU, Columbia University, and large New York City health systems regularly post HR coordinator trainee roles open to recent graduates. Earning a SHRM student membership or completing a HRCI aPHR exam while still in school gives candidates a concrete edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to human resources assistant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to human resources assistant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state updated in real time. Search by city or role type to narrow results to positions that match your experience level and preferred work arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
