Human Resources Assistant Jobs in North Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources assistant in North Dakota?
Most human resources assistant positions in North Dakota require at least an associate degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, though a bachelor's degree improves hiring prospects at larger employers. North Dakota does not require a state-issued license for this role, but professional credentials such as the SHRM-CP or aPHR are recognized by employers statewide. Many candidates start through administrative roles within HR departments at healthcare systems, state agencies, or regional employers before moving into dedicated HR assistant positions.
Which companies hire human resources assistants in North Dakota?
Companies currently hiring human resources assistants in North Dakota include BELL BANK, Amazon, and Horizon Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Sanford Health, Altru Health System, the State of North Dakota, and Basin Electric Power Cooperative are among the most consistent long-term employers of HR assistants in the state.
Which North Dakota cities have the most human resources assistant jobs?
Fargo, Grand Forks, and Bismarck lead North Dakota for human resources assistant openings. Fargo dominates as the state's largest metro, anchored by Sanford Health, major financial services firms, and a concentration of regional corporate offices, while Bismarck's volume is driven by state government agencies and healthcare, and Grand Forks benefits from Altru Health System and University of North Dakota operations.
Are there remote human resources assistant jobs in North Dakota?
Yes, though the role is more commonly on-site than fully remote given the hands-on nature of onboarding, file management, and employee relations support. About 0% of human resources assistant openings tied to North Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which is higher than trades or clinical roles but lower than fully desk-based analytical fields. Recruitment coordination and benefits data entry are the functions most likely to carry remote or hybrid flexibility.
How can I get hired as a human resources assistant in North Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an administrative support or office coordinator role within an HR department, particularly at North Dakota's large healthcare systems or state agencies, where internal transfers into HR assistant roles are common. Sanford Health and the State of North Dakota both post entry-level HR support and HR technician roles that do not require prior HR-specific experience. Completing a SHRM student membership, earning an aPHR credential, or finishing an HR certificate through North Dakota State University or Bismarck State College gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to human resources assistant jobs in North Dakota?
You can find and apply to human resources assistant jobs in North Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
