Human Resources Specialist Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources specialist in Tennessee?
Tennessee does not require a state-issued license to work as a human resources specialist, so the path begins with a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field from an accredited institution. Most Tennessee employers expect candidates to pursue professional certification such as the SHRM-CP or PHR to demonstrate competency. Gaining experience through internships with Tennessee-based manufacturers, health systems, or logistics companies strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do human resources specialists make in Tennessee?
Human resources specialists in Tennessee earn a median of about $67,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $45,630 for the lowest 10% to over $109,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire human resources specialists in Tennessee?
Employers hiring human resources specialists in Tennessee right now include HCA Healthcare, Maury Regional Health, and PathGroup, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's blend of large healthcare systems, automotive manufacturers, and distribution operations means HR openings appear across a broad range of industries and company sizes throughout the state.
Which Tennessee cities have the most human resources specialist jobs?
Nashville, Brentwood, and Memphis have the most human resources specialist openings in Tennessee. Nashville drives the largest share of demand through its concentration of corporate headquarters, healthcare systems, and professional services firms, while Memphis generates steady openings through its major logistics and distribution employers, and Chattanooga contributes through its manufacturing and automotive sector presence.
Are there remote human resources specialist jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields, since much of the work involves policy, documentation, and employee communication that can be handled off-site. About 53% of human resources specialist openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Benefits administration, recruiting coordination, and HR generalist work are the functions most frequently offered in remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a human resources specialist in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an HR coordinator or HR assistant role at one of Tennessee's large healthcare systems or manufacturing companies, where structured onboarding and mentoring are common. HCA Healthcare and FedEx both run rotational or associate programs that bring in candidates with limited HR experience. Completing the SHRM student membership and earning the SHRM-CP gives early-career candidates a measurable credential edge, and moving laterally from payroll, administrative coordination, or office management roles is a well-established route into HR specialist positions.
Where can I find and apply to human resources specialist jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to human resources specialist jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
