Marketing Director Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketing director in North Carolina?
Marketing director roles in North Carolina do not require a state-issued license or certification, so the path runs through education and experience. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or business, and many Charlotte and Raleigh employers favor candidates who have also completed an MBA. From there, the typical progression moves through specialist, manager, and senior manager roles before reaching director level, with portfolio depth and team leadership experience carrying the most weight.
How much do marketing directors make in North Carolina?
Marketing directors in North Carolina earn a median of about $165,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,760 for the lowest 10% to over $274,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire marketing directors in North Carolina?
Employers hiring marketing directors in North Carolina right now include Saber Healthcare, Labcorp, and Krispy Kreme, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. North Carolina's mix of Fortune 500 financial firms in Charlotte, major research universities and health systems in the Research Triangle, and a growing tech sector means openings appear across a wide range of industries throughout the state.
Which North Carolina cities have the most marketing director jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, and Durham account for the largest share of marketing director openings in North Carolina. Charlotte drives volume through its concentration of banking, insurance, and consumer brands, while Raleigh and Durham benefit from the Research Triangle's dense cluster of technology companies, universities, and health systems that each maintain sizable in-house marketing teams.
Are there remote marketing director jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields, because marketing director work is largely strategic, digital, and communication-driven rather than tied to a physical site. About 60% of marketing director openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely the profession has adopted flexible arrangements. Brand strategy, content leadership, and demand generation are the sub-areas most likely to be offered on a fully remote basis.
How can I get hired as a marketing director in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a marketing coordinator or marketing specialist role at one of North Carolina's large institutional employers, such as a Research Triangle tech firm, a Charlotte financial services company, or a health system like Atrium Health, and building upward from there. Many of these organizations run structured rotational or associate marketing programs for recent graduates. A strong digital portfolio, Google or HubSpot certifications, and a demonstrated ability to manage campaigns independently will accelerate the move from individual contributor to manager and eventually to director level.
Where can I find and apply to marketing director jobs in North Carolina?
You can find and apply to marketing director jobs in North Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
