National Account Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a national account manager in Illinois?
Most national account managers in Illinois start with a bachelor's degree in business, sales, or marketing and move into the role after building experience in territory sales, key account management, or category management. Illinois does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers in Chicago-area CPG, healthcare, and manufacturing firms typically promote from regional or territory account roles, and a record of quota attainment in a related Illinois industry is the clearest path to a national account seat.
How much do national account managers make in Illinois?
National account managers in Illinois earn a median of about $73,510 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,130 for the lowest 10% to over $134,030 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire national account managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring national account managers in Illinois right now include Eaton, Travelers, and ITW, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of CPG, healthcare, and industrial manufacturing headquarters in and around Chicago makes it one of the more active states for this role year-round.
Which Illinois cities have the most national account manager jobs?
Chicago, Minooka, and Woodridge have the most national account manager openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the largest share because it is home to major CPG, healthcare, and technology company headquarters, while suburban corridors like Downers Grove and Lake County add volume from manufacturing and distribution employers whose national sales teams are based outside the city core.
Are there remote national account manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than many sales roles, because national account managers work across widely dispersed clients and spend significant time on calls, presentations, and virtual business reviews. About 83% of national account manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which reflects how broadly distributed the client base tends to be in this function. Strategic account planning, forecasting, and internal reporting are the tasks most consistently done remotely.
How can I get hired as a national account manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a territory sales representative or inside sales role at a mid-size Illinois manufacturer, distributor, or CPG company and building measurable account growth results before stepping into a national account title. Large Illinois employers in food and beverage, medical devices, and business technology regularly hire sales development representatives and associate account managers as pipeline roles. Completing a Salesforce certification or an industry credential recognized by your target sector, such as a CPSM through the Institute for Supply Management, sharpens your candidacy against more experienced applicants.
Where can I find and apply to national account manager jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to national account manager jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
