National Account Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a national account manager in California?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related discipline combined with several years of B2B or enterprise sales experience. California has no state-issued license required for the role itself. Most employers expect candidates to progress from inside sales or account executive positions before moving into national account management. Proficiency with CRM tools and a background in the target industry, whether technology, consumer goods, or healthcare, significantly improves a candidate's competitiveness in this market.
How much do national account managers make in California?
National account managers in California earn a median of about $76,490 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,200 for the lowest 10% to over $152,760 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire national account managers in California?
Employers hiring national account managers in California right now include Keystone Technologies, US Foods, and Jacuzzi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, major retail chains, and large health systems means the employer mix is unusually broad compared with most other states.
Which California cities have the most national account manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Sacramento have the most national account manager openings in California. Los Angeles dominates due to its scale across entertainment, consumer goods, and healthcare, while San Francisco draws heavily from enterprise technology companies headquartered in the Bay Area, and San Diego's presence reflects its biotech, defense, and medical device industries, which rely on dedicated national account teams to manage large institutional clients.
Are there remote national account manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many field-based roles, since account strategy, forecasting, and relationship management can often be handled without a fixed office location. About 89% of national account manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the role's strong overlap with enterprise software and technology companies that operate distributed commercial teams. Client-facing responsibilities, particularly for retail or health system accounts, are most likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a national account manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a business development representative or inside sales role at a California technology or consumer goods company, where consistent quota performance creates a path to account executive and eventually national accounts. Large California employers including those in the Bay Area SaaS sector and Los Angeles-based CPG companies run structured sales development programs that hire candidates without prior national account experience. Building proficiency in Salesforce and earning a recognized sales certification can also distinguish an early-career applicant in a competitive market.
Where can I find and apply to national account manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to national account manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and target industry, and apply directly to each listing without needing to create an account or sign up.
