Outside Sales Representative Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an outside sales representative in New Jersey?
Outside sales representatives in New Jersey do not require a state-issued license for most industries, so the path runs through education and employer-sponsored training. Most companies expect at least a high school diploma, with a bachelor's degree in business or marketing preferred for pharmaceutical and medical device roles. Candidates typically start in inside sales or customer service with a New Jersey-based distributor, manufacturer, or service company, then move into territory roles once they demonstrate consistent results.
How much do outside sales representatives make in New Jersey?
Outside sales representatives in New Jersey earn a median of about $79,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,910 for the lowest 10% to over $169,820 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire outside sales representatives in New Jersey?
Employers hiring outside sales representatives in New Jersey right now include ADP, National Federation of Independent Business, and UniFirst, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, specialty distributors, and logistics hubs means steady hiring across a wide range of product and service categories throughout the year.
Which New Jersey cities have the most outside sales representative jobs?
Newark, Mount Laurel, and New Jersey have the most outside sales representative openings in New Jersey. Newark and Edison generate high volume because of their proximity to major pharmaceutical campuses, distribution centers, and corporate headquarters along the Route 1 corridor, while Cherry Hill serves as a hub for companies covering the Philadelphia metro and South Jersey commercial markets.
Are there remote outside sales representative jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're uncommon, since outside sales by definition requires in-person client visits and territory coverage. About 29% of outside sales representative openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to be senior account management or national account roles where relationship maintenance replaces daily field work. Most field-facing territory roles require regular presence across an assigned New Jersey geography.
How can I get hired as an outside sales representative in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales development or inside sales role at a New Jersey-based distributor, staffing company, or logistics provider, where you build prospecting skills before moving into field coverage. Large New Jersey employers in food service distribution and specialty chemicals often hire candidates directly from retail or customer service backgrounds and provide structured onboarding programs. A clean driver's record, comfort with CRM tools, and any completed sales training course from a community college in New Jersey all strengthen a first application.
Where can I find and apply to outside sales representative jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to outside sales representative jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and territory preference, and apply directly to each position that fits.
