People Operations Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a people operations manager in New York?
Most people operations managers in New York enter the role through a bachelor's degree in human resources or business, followed by several years as an HR generalist or coordinator. New York does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers across the city and state consistently favor candidates with SHRM-CP or PHR certification. Familiarity with New York City-specific employment requirements, including the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act and pay transparency rules, strengthens any application significantly.
How much do people operations managers make in New York?
People operations managers in New York earn a median of about $176,650 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,380 for the lowest 10% to over $321,880 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire people operations managers in New York?
Employers hiring people operations managers in New York right now include Amazon, Walgreens, and McDonald's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of financial services firms, large media companies, and major healthcare networks means openings appear consistently across a wide range of industries throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most people operations manager jobs?
The cities with the most people operations manager openings in New York are New York, Brooklyn, and Rochester. New York City dominates by volume given its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and media companies, while Albany sees steady demand driven by state government agencies and regional healthcare systems, and Buffalo's growing technology and healthcare sectors support a consistent share of openings outside the metro.
Are there remote people operations manager jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many HR-adjacent roles, since people operations work is heavily systems-based and documentation-driven. About 13% of people operations manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's strong fit with distributed work arrangements. Functions like HRIS administration, policy development, and onboarding coordination are the most commonly performed remotely, while employee relations and on-site engagement work typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a people operations manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an HR coordinator or HR generalist role at a mid-size New York employer, where broader responsibilities create a faster route to people operations work than large corporate entry programs. Many New York-based companies in tech and media, including those headquartered in the Flatiron District and Hudson Yards corridors, hire HR associates directly from business or communications programs. Building familiarity with New York City employment law and earning a SHRM-CP certification early makes candidates considerably more competitive for promotion into a manager-level role.
Where can I find and apply to people operations manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to people operations manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across New York City, Albany, Buffalo, and other markets in the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
