SpyCloud is on a mission to make the internet a safer place by disrupting the criminal underground. SpyCloud's solutions thwart cyberattacks and protect more than 4 billion accounts worldwide. Cybersecurity is an exciting, evolving space, and being at the forefront of the fight to disrupt cybercrime makes SpyCloud a special place to work. If you're driven to align your career with a fantastic mission, look no further!
We are seeking an experienced Manager, Federal Sales Engineering to lead our public sector pre-sales effort in a true player-coach role. You will spend roughly half your time leading and developing a small team of federal sales engineers, and the other half hands-on in strategic engagements: running demos, scoping proofs of concept, and supporting discovery with civilian agencies, the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, and federal law enforcement.
This is a senior role for a deeply technical cybersecurity leader who understands the federal market and the distinct missions, environments, and buying behavior of the DoD, the Intelligence Community, and federal law enforcement. You will work side by side with federal sales leadership and partners to turn SpyCloud's breach, malware, and identity data into mission outcomes.
What You'll Do:
- Operate as a player-coach. Split your time evenly between managing the federal SE team and personally owning pre-sales efforts on strategic agency and partner accounts.
- Lead and mentor a team of federal sales engineers, setting the standard for demos, proofs of concept, and technical discovery.
- Partner with federal sales leadership to ensure coverage across civilian, defense, intelligence, and law enforcement accounts, tailored to each agency's mission and environment.
- Turn data into mission outcomes. Use SpyCloud breach, infostealer/malware-derived, credential, and identity data to support investigations, fraud detection, account takeover defense, and adversary tracking for specific customer situations.
- Drive channel and partner engagement with public sector resellers, system integrators, and solution architects through hands-on SME support.
- Guide proofs of concept and pilots from scoping through outcome, and translate findings into clear, customer-ready results for technical and mission audiences.
- Support engagements in secure environments (including SCIF settings) where required, leveraging your TS/SCI clearance.
- Capture product gaps and field feedback, and bring them back to product and engineering to shape the federal roadmap.
- Represent SpyCloud at federal and defense conferences, agency days, and industry events.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity pre-sales, including federal or public sector accounts.
- Deep understanding of the federal market and the missions, operating environments, and acquisition behavior of the Department of Defense, federal law enforcement, and the Intelligence Community.
- 4+ years of experience managing sales engineering teams.
- Active Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance and U.S. citizenship (required).
- Based in the DC metro area.
- Experience with OSINT tools and tradecraft.
- Familiarity with federal procurement, contract vehicles, and the public sector buying cycle.
- Experience tracking KPIs and creating health dashboards for team performance.
- Willingness to travel as required across the region and to agency sites.
- Python or similar coding knowledge.
Nice to Have:
- Prior federal investigator, intelligence community, or DoD background.
- Working knowledge of FedRAMP, DoD Impact Levels, and the ATO process.
- Experience with public sector partner, system integrator, and reseller motions.
- Familiarity with infostealer and malware-derived intelligence and identity analytics.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted investigation tooling (agentic workflows, LLM-driven analysis, MCP or tool-calling integrations) and comfort demonstrating these to technical and mission audiences.
Base Salary Range: $133,000 – $200,000
On Target Earnings (OTE): $167,000 – $250,000
OTE is reflecting base salary plus variable commission at expected performance levels. Actual earnings will vary based on individual performance.
The salary range reflects the expected base compensation for a fully qualified candidate at this level based on experience, qualifications, and market data at the time of posting.

Sales Manager Jobs in District of Columbia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales manager in District of Columbia?
Sales manager roles in the District of Columbia do not require a state-issued license or certification, so the path runs through education and experience. Most employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, along with several years in a quota-carrying sales role before moving into management. Experience selling to government agencies or federal contractors carries particular weight in the D.C. market, where much of the commercial sales activity is tied to public sector clients.
How much do sales managers make in District of Columbia?
Sales managers in District of Columbia earn a median of about $141,800 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $83,560 for the lowest 10% to over $270,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales managers in District of Columbia?
Companies currently hiring sales managers in District of Columbia include Alvarez & Marsal, Gratitude Systems, and Reyes Beverage, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The District's concentration of defense contractors, consulting firms, and technology integrators means sales manager demand here is heavily tied to government and enterprise clients.
Which District of Columbia cities have the most sales manager jobs?
The cities with the most sales manager openings in District of Columbia are Washington. Washington D.C. dominates the distribution because it is home to the federal government, hundreds of trade associations, and the regional headquarters of major contractors and technology firms, with suburban nodes like Arlington and Bethesda drawing overflow demand from the same employer base.
Are there remote sales manager jobs in District of Columbia?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because sales management typically involves in-person client meetings and team oversight. About 69% of sales manager openings tied to District of Columbia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the market's lean toward government and enterprise accounts that often require on-site engagement. The roles most likely to offer remote flexibility are those focused on inside sales teams or national account management rather than local client development.
How can I get hired as a sales manager in District of Columbia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to start in an account executive, business development representative, or inside sales role at a D.C.-area government contractor or technology integrator, then move into management after demonstrating consistent quota attainment. Firms like Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, and SAIC regularly bring on early-career sales professionals and promote from within. Earning a Certified Professional Sales Person credential or completing a formal sales leadership development program strengthens a candidate's case when competing for a first management title.
