Strategy Operations Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a strategy operations manager in Virginia?
Most strategy operations manager roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, public policy, or a closely related field, with a master's degree or MBA preferred at senior levels. Virginia does not require a state-issued license for this role. Candidates who pursue a Project Management Professional certification or a Lean Six Sigma credential gain a concrete hiring edge, particularly with Northern Virginia's large government contracting employers who value standardized methodology credentials.
How much do strategy operations managers make in Virginia?
Strategy operations managers in Virginia earn a median of about $122,080 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,400 for the lowest 10% to over $261,060 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire strategy operations managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring strategy operations managers in Virginia right now include Capital One, Amazon Web Services, and Information Technology Senior Management Forum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's deep concentration of defense contractors, federal consulting firms, and large financial services headquarters means openings often require familiarity with government program structures or regulated industry environments.
Which Virginia cities have the most strategy operations manager jobs?
The Virginia cities with the most strategy operations manager openings are McLean, Arlington, and Richmond. Northern Virginia drives the largest share because of its dense cluster of federal agencies and defense contractors, while Richmond's concentration of financial services and Fortune 500 regional headquarters generates consistent demand, and Hampton Roads openings are anchored by military command organizations and their supporting contractor ecosystems.
Are there remote strategy operations manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 75% of strategy operations manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the work. Strategic planning, performance reporting, and process improvement workstreams are the sub-functions most frequently offered on a remote or hybrid basis, though roles with direct team leadership or client-site presence tend to require at least partial in-office attendance.
How can I get hired as a strategy operations manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a business operations analyst, program coordinator, or management associate role at a large Virginia employer. Firms such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte's government practice, and Leidos run structured associate and analyst development programs that recruit candidates without direct strategy experience. Lateral moves from project coordination, financial analysis, or government program administration roles are common stepping stones. Earning a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt or completing a PMP exam prep course signals readiness and gives early-career candidates a credible differentiator in Virginia's competitive contracting market.
Where can I find and apply to strategy operations manager jobs in Virginia?
