Area Sales Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a area sales manager in Massachusetts?
Most area sales managers in Massachusetts start with a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a field tied to their industry, then spend several years succeeding as an individual contributor before moving into management. Massachusetts does not require a state-issued license for general sales management, but roles in financial services may require FINRA Series 6, 7, or 63 registrations, and biopharma or medical device roles often expect familiarity with FDA regulatory requirements. Building a record of territory growth and team development is the clearest path forward.
How much do area sales managers make in Massachusetts?
Area sales managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $191,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $100,510 for the lowest 10% to over $321,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire area sales managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring area sales managers in Massachusetts right now include The Olympia Companies, Blitzy, and Datadog, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of life sciences, financial services, and enterprise technology companies means hiring activity is steady throughout the year, particularly in the greater Boston corridor.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most area sales manager jobs?
Boston, Massachusetts, and Cambridge account for the greatest concentration of area sales manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston drives the bulk of demand as the state's commercial and biotech hub, while Worcester draws hiring from manufacturing and healthcare distributors, and suburban markets like Waltham and Burlington contribute significantly thanks to the technology and life sciences companies clustered along Route 128.
Are there remote area sales manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're limited. Area sales management is fundamentally a field-facing role that requires in-person client visits, team ride-alongs, and territory coverage, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 57% of area sales manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to involve inside sales oversight or national account responsibilities rather than hands-on territory management.
How can I get hired as a area sales manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is excelling as an individual contributor in a related role first. Large Massachusetts employers in life sciences and technology, including those along the Route 128 corridor, regularly hire sales development representatives, territory associates, and clinical sales specialists who demonstrate leadership potential. Building a FINRA registration if you pursue financial services, or gaining product knowledge certifications in medical devices, gives candidates a clear edge when applying for their first management role.
Where can I find and apply to area sales manager jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to area sales manager jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to see what's available, find roles that match your experience and territory preference, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
