Insurance Sales Agent Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance sales agent in Texas?
You become an insurance sales agent in Texas by obtaining a license from the Texas Department of Insurance. Choose the line of authority you want, either Property and Casualty or Life, Accident, and Health, complete a state-approved pre-licensing course, pass the corresponding TDI exam, and submit a license application. No college degree is required, though many employers prefer candidates with a business or finance background.
How much do insurance sales agents make in Texas?
Insurance sales agents in Texas earn a median of about $51,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,140 for the lowest 10% to over $128,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire insurance sales agents in Texas?
Employers hiring insurance sales agents in Texas right now include A-MAX Insurance, Farmers Insurance, and New York Life, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large population and concentration of corporate headquarters mean both national carriers and independent agencies post openings throughout the year, particularly for personal lines and commercial accounts.
Which Texas cities have the most insurance sales agent jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most insurance sales agent openings in Texas. Houston's energy sector and large small-business community drive strong commercial lines demand, Dallas anchors a dense concentration of corporate headquarters and regional carrier offices, and San Antonio's military population and fast-growing suburbs generate consistent personal lines and Medicare supplement hiring.
Are there remote insurance sales agent jobs in Texas?
Yes, though they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because client relationship-building often happens in person. About 1% of insurance sales agent openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote work most prevalent in inside sales roles focused on inbound leads, renewals, or Medicare over-the-phone enrollment rather than field sales or commercial accounts.
How can I get hired as a insurance sales agent in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining your Texas Department of Insurance license before applying, which signals commitment and removes a barrier for hiring managers. Large Texas carriers and agencies such as State Farm, Farmers Insurance, and local independent shops regularly bring on unlicensed candidates as sales support or customer service representatives and sponsor their licensing. Candidates coming from retail, financial services, or call-center roles transition easily, and completing your TDI exam while in one of those roles gives you a competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to insurance sales agent jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to insurance sales agent jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across carriers, agencies, and brokerages. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your license type and experience level, and apply directly to the employer.
