Outside Sales Manager Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an outside sales manager in Ohio?
Most outside sales managers in Ohio move up from individual contributor sales roles after building several years of field experience in a specific industry such as manufacturing, distribution, or healthcare. Ohio does not require a state-issued license for outside sales managers, but employers in regulated sectors like insurance or financial services require relevant Ohio-specific licensure before managing a sales team. A bachelor's degree in business or marketing strengthens candidacy, and experience managing a territory in the Ohio market is the most consistent hiring factor.
How much do outside sales managers make in Ohio?
Outside sales managers in Ohio earn a median of about $135,510 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,190 for the lowest 10% to over $251,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire outside sales managers in Ohio?
Companies currently hiring outside sales managers in Ohio include Buffalo Biodiesel, Spectrum, and Acosta, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's concentration of manufacturing headquarters, healthcare distributors, and regional financial firms makes it one of the more consistent states for outside sales manager hiring year-round.
Which Ohio cities have the most outside sales manager jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland lead Ohio in outside sales manager openings. Columbus drives volume through its concentration of corporate headquarters and financial services firms, Cleveland draws on its manufacturing and healthcare technology sectors, and Cincinnati benefits from its density of consumer goods and logistics companies with large regional sales operations.
Are there remote outside sales manager jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. Outside sales management is a fundamentally field-based role, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 42% of outside sales manager openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to cover account strategy or national territory oversight rather than hands-on local team management. Most Ohio roles expect regular in-market presence with the sales team and key accounts.
How can I get hired as an outside sales manager in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to build two to three years as a high-performing outside sales representative at an Ohio employer, then pursue an internal promotion into a team lead or sales supervisor role. Large Ohio-based companies like Sherwin-Williams and Cardinal Health run structured sales development programs that can accelerate that path. Moving from an adjacent role such as account executive or regional sales coordinator into a player-coach position is a common lateral entry point, and completing an Ohio insurance or financial services license adds credibility for supervisory roles in those sectors.
Where can I find and apply to outside sales manager jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to outside sales manager jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
