Sales Representative Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales representative in Virginia?
Most sales representative roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, though many employers accept equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. Virginia does not require a general sales license, but representatives selling insurance must obtain a Virginia resident producer license through the Virginia State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Insurance. For pharmaceutical or medical device sales, hiring managers in Virginia typically expect prior healthcare or science exposure alongside demonstrated sales aptitude.
Which companies hire sales representatives in Virginia?
Employers hiring sales representatives in Virginia right now include Acosta, Ferguson, and American Marketing and Publishing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors, health systems, and technology firms in the Northern Virginia corridor means that enterprise and government-facing sales roles are particularly active across the state.
Which Virginia cities have the most sales representative jobs?
Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake have the most sales representative openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's dominance reflects its dense cluster of defense contractors, technology companies, and federal agency vendors, while Richmond's role as the state capital and a regional headquarters hub for financial and healthcare firms drives strong demand there, and Virginia Beach supports consistent openings tied to its large military and healthcare employer base.
Are there remote sales representative jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields, since inside sales and software-focused account management roles translate well to remote work. About 32% of sales representative openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly technology and SaaS companies post for remote-eligible talent. Roles requiring in-person client visits, territory coverage, or hands-on product demonstrations are still predominantly on-site or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a sales representative in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales development representative or inside sales associate role, which large Virginia employers such as Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, and regional health systems use as structured on-ramps for candidates without a full sales background. Internship and rotational programs at Northern Virginia technology firms are a practical route for recent graduates. Transferable experience in retail, customer service, or account coordination, combined with a CRM certification, strengthens a Virginia application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to sales representative jobs in Virginia?
