Sales Team Leader Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales team leader in Illinois?
Most Illinois employers promote sales team leaders from within their sales organizations after candidates demonstrate consistent performance as individual contributors. No state-issued license is required for most sales leadership roles, though insurance sales managers must hold an active Illinois Producer License through the Illinois Department of Insurance. A bachelor's degree in business or marketing strengthens candidacy, and formal sales training certifications from recognized programs add a competitive edge.
How much do sales team leaders make in Illinois?
Sales team leaders in Illinois earn a median of about $88,820 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,150 for the lowest 10% to over $162,490 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales team leaders in Illinois?
Employers hiring sales team leaders in Illinois right now include Target, Dollar General, and Meijer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major insurance carriers, and national retail chains makes it one of the more active states for sales leadership hiring year-round.
Which Illinois cities have the most sales team leader jobs?
Chicago, Schaumburg, and Arlington Heights account for the most sales team leader openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates due to its dense corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and regional offices for national companies, while Naperville and Rockford benefit from established manufacturing, distribution, and mid-market B2B sales operations that consistently maintain dedicated sales leadership teams.
Are there remote sales team leader jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and they're more common than in many fields. About 32% of sales team leader openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much inside sales and SaaS account management has shifted away from physical offices. Roles focused on field sales or retail floor supervision remain predominantly on-site.
How can I get hired as a sales team leader in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a top-performing individual contributor role into a team lead or senior sales representative position at a large Illinois employer. Companies like Grainger and Allstate run structured development programs that identify high performers for leadership rotations. Roles such as senior account executive, sales trainer, or territory coordinator serve as common stepping stones, and obtaining a sales management certificate from an Illinois business school strengthens an application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to sales team leader jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to sales team leader jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit.
