Staff Accountant Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff accountant in Minnesota?
Most staff accountant roles in Minnesota require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. From there, many employers expect candidates to be on a CPA track, which means meeting the Minnesota Board of Accountancy's education requirements and passing the Uniform CPA Examination. The board requires a specific number of semester credit hours in accounting and business courses before you can sit for the exam. Even without a CPA, a degree plus internship experience at a Minnesota firm or corporate accounting department is a common entry point.
Which companies hire staff accountants in Minnesota?
Minnesota staff accountant roles are posted by Haga Kommer, Grand View Lodge, and PULSE and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and regional financial services firms makes it one of the more active markets in the Midwest for accounting talent at every level.
Which Minnesota cities have the most staff accountant jobs?
Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and Eden Prairie account for the largest share of staff accountant openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities drive the majority of postings, anchored by corporate headquarters in industries like retail, healthcare, financial services, and insurance, while Rochester's demand is shaped heavily by Mayo Clinic and its affiliated network of healthcare organizations.
Are there remote staff accountant jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than many accounting roles, since staff accountants primarily work with data, systems, and reports rather than requiring a physical presence. About 47% of staff accountant openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work environments. General ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial reporting are the tasks most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a staff accountant in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is applying for accounting associate or junior accountant roles while completing or just finishing a bachelor's degree in accounting. Large Minnesota employers like Target, UnitedHealth Group, and regional public accounting firms run structured new-graduate hiring cycles and internship-to-hire programs that feed directly into staff accountant roles. Lateral moves from accounts payable, accounts receivable, or payroll specialist positions are a well-worn route into the role. Sitting for the CPA exam, even before passing, signals commitment and gives candidates a clear edge over equally inexperienced applicants.
Where can I find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to staff accountant jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
