Commercial Account Executive Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a commercial account executive in California?
Most commercial account executives in California start with a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, then move into a sales development or inside sales role to build pipeline experience. For those in commercial insurance, California requires licensure through the California Department of Insurance, including passing the Property and Casualty broker-agent exam. In SaaS and technology sales, employers typically prioritize demonstrated quota attainment and familiarity with tools like Salesforce over formal credentials.
How much do commercial account executives make in California?
Commercial account executives in California earn a median of about $76,490 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,200 for the lowest 10% to over $152,760 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire commercial account executives in California?
Employers hiring commercial account executives in California right now include Five9, Brex, and Navan, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of enterprise technology headquarters and large commercial insurance carriers makes it one of the most consistently active states for this role year-round.
Which California cities have the most commercial account executive jobs?
San Francisco, Palo Alto, and San Ramon have the most commercial account executive openings in California. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area lead because of the dense concentration of SaaS and enterprise technology companies headquartered there, while Los Angeles draws significant volume from commercial insurance, media, and logistics employers, and San Diego's growing life sciences and defense technology sector supports steady demand.
Are there remote commercial account executive jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 55% of commercial account executive openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role, including prospecting, product demos, and contract negotiation, can be conducted digitally. Roles focused on mid-market SaaS or cloud software tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while positions requiring in-person client relationship management or field coverage are more likely to be hybrid.
How can I get hired as a commercial account executive in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative or business development representative role at a California technology or SaaS company, which builds the prospecting and qualification skills that hiring managers look for before promoting into a full account executive seat. Large Bay Area employers often run structured SDR-to-AE programs internally. For commercial insurance, starting as a customer service representative or account manager at a California agency and earning your Property and Casualty license through the California Department of Insurance is a direct route into a commercial account executive role.
Where can I find and apply to commercial account executive jobs in California?
You can find and apply to commercial account executive jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to California employers across industries including technology, commercial insurance, and financial services.
