Confirm your degree field aligns with the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the job duties. A degree in business administration, operations management, or finance maps cleanly to Account Operations Manager. A degree in an unrelated field can trigger a Request for Evidence.
Target employers with a documented sponsorship history
Tech firms, management consulting companies, and large financial services employers sponsor Account Operations roles most frequently. Checking Department of Labor LCA disclosure data shows which specific companies have filed for this job title in recent years.
Understand the LCA requirement before you apply
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before your H-1B petition is submitted. This certifies your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. Budget three to five weeks for LCA certification.
Prepare documentation connecting your duties to a specialty occupation
USCIS scrutinizes operations management roles because not all employers frame them around degree-specific knowledge. Work with your employer to document that your position requires specialized business, analytical, or financial expertise tied directly to a specific degree field.
Factor in premium processing if timing is tight
Standard H-1B adjudication can take three to six months after cap selection. Premium processing reduces USCIS review to 15 business days for an additional fee paid by the employer. If your OPT or current status expires soon, raise this with your employer early.
Australian nationals should explore the E-3 visa
The E-3 visa covers the same specialty occupation standard as the H-1B but has no lottery, a 10,500 annual cap that goes unfilled, and can be renewed indefinitely in two-year increments. Account Operations Manager roles sponsored under E-3 face far less competition than H-1B filings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Account Operations Manager qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it's not automatic. USCIS evaluates whether the specific job duties require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a particular field, not just any degree. Employers need to demonstrate that the role requires specialized knowledge in business operations, finance, or a related discipline. Vague job descriptions that accept any degree field are the most common reason this title gets challenged.
What degree do I need to get sponsored as an Account Operations Manager?
A bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, finance, or a closely related field is the standard baseline. Some employers accept degrees in economics, management information systems, or supply chain management depending on how the role is structured. What matters is that your degree field has a logical, direct connection to the specialized duties of the position USCIS will review.
Which industries are most likely to sponsor an Account Operations Manager?
Technology companies, management consulting firms, financial services companies, and enterprise SaaS businesses sponsor this title most consistently. These industries tend to structure Account Operations roles around analytical frameworks, systems management, and client strategy, all of which support a specialty occupation argument. Government contractors and healthcare technology companies are also active sponsors for this job title.
How do I find Account Operations Manager jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship was never on the table. Searching Migrate Mate for Account Operations Manager roles lets you filter by visa type, industry, and location so you can focus your applications on employers already willing to sponsor.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I get a better Account Operations Manager offer?
Yes. H-1B visa portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, without waiting for USCIS approval, provided you've been maintaining valid H-1B status. The new employer files a fresh I-129 with a new LCA reflecting the new role and location. You don't lose your place in the cap and don't re-enter the lottery.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Account Operations Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
