Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Professional Services Engineer
Target enterprise software and cloud companies first
Companies like Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Palo Alto Networks hire Professional Services Engineers at scale and have established visa sponsorship workflows. These employers file hundreds of H-1B petitions annually, making the process faster and more familiar for their HR teams.
Lead with certifications alongside your degree
AWS, Azure, GCP, and vendor-specific certifications strengthen your H-1B specialty occupation case by demonstrating field-specific expertise. USCIS scrutinizes Professional Services roles more than pure engineering titles, so certifications help establish that the position requires specialized knowledge.
Confirm the role requires a specific degree field
For H-1B approval, the job must require a bachelor's degree in a specific discipline, not just any degree. Ask hiring managers whether the role is posted with a defined degree requirement. Vague postings like 'relevant experience accepted' can complicate your petition.
Prepare for RFEs on specialty occupation grounds
USCIS has issued Requests for Evidence on Professional Services Engineer roles, questioning whether they meet specialty occupation standards. Having detailed job duty descriptions, your employer's internal documentation, and your degree transcripts ready before filing significantly reduces delays.
Ask about cap-exempt employer options
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government-affiliated organizations are exempt from the H-1B lottery cap. A Professional Services Engineer role at a university IT department or research lab could mean skipping the lottery entirely and receiving faster processing year-round.
Start the employer conversation early in the interview process
Sponsorship logistics take time, particularly LCA filing and attorney review. Raising the topic after an offer wastes weeks. Confirming early that a company has sponsored this role before, and has immigration counsel on retainer, prevents late-stage surprises before your start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Professional Services Engineer role eligible for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, Professional Services Engineer roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. The key risk is USCIS scrutinizing whether the role meets specialty occupation standards, particularly if job duties overlap with general consulting or account management. Employers with a strong history of sponsoring this title are your safest path.
What degree do I need for a Professional Services Engineer visa sponsorship?
Most H-1B petitions for this role are filed under a computer science, software engineering, information technology, or electrical engineering degree. A general business or management degree is unlikely to support approval unless the role involves highly technical systems work. Australian applicants on E-3 visas face the same requirement. If your degree field is adjacent, your employer's attorney can sometimes build a case using coursework overlap and relevant work experience.
How likely is USCIS to approve an H-1B for a Professional Services Engineer?
Approval rates for this title are moderate but lower than for titles like Software Engineer or Data Scientist, because USCIS has historically challenged whether client-facing technical roles meet specialty occupation criteria. Employers who document that the role requires advanced technical knowledge, not just product familiarity or customer support skills, see significantly better outcomes. Premium processing is worth considering since it reduces uncertainty during your job transition window.
Can I find Professional Services Engineer jobs that sponsor visas without the H-1B lottery?
Yes. Cap-exempt employers, including universities and qualifying nonprofit research organizations, can file H-1B petitions year-round without lottery exposure. Some Australian citizens also qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and a separate annual allocation that has never been fully used. Migrate Mate lists sponsoring employers specifically for roles like this, so you can filter by visa type and employer sponsorship history rather than guessing from a generic job posting.
Does prior experience substitute for a degree when applying for this role with visa sponsorship?
Under H-1B rules, three years of specialized work experience can substitute for one year of a four-year degree, but this path adds complexity and requires stronger documentation. Most employers sponsoring Professional Services Engineers prefer candidates with a qualifying degree because it simplifies the USCIS petition and reduces RFE risk. If you lack a four-year degree, confirm with the employer's immigration attorney whether your experience profile is sufficient before accepting an offer.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Professional Services Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
