Environmental Engineer Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Environmental engineers are sponsored at engineering consultancies, energy companies, and manufacturing firms including AECOM, WSP, Jacobs, ExxonMobil, Dow, and Tesla for roles in remediation design, air quality permitting, water treatment, and environmental compliance that require environmental or civil engineering degrees. H-1B visa classification is straightforward because the role clearly qualifies as a specialty occupation, and IIJA infrastructure funding, PFAS remediation mandates, and EPA regulatory expansion are driving demand that exceeds domestic workforce capacity.

Engineering Consultancies Sponsor Most Frequently
AECOM, WSP, Jacobs, Arcadis, Stantec, and Geosyntec sponsor environmental engineers for remediation, permitting, and compliance projects at scale with established H-1B filing processes. IIJA-funded Superfund cleanups and water infrastructure projects have created more positions than these firms can fill domestically.
PFAS and Emerging Contaminant Expertise Is in Acute Demand
EPA's PFAS regulations are driving massive demand for environmental engineers specializing in PFAS site investigation, treatment system design, and risk assessment. Engineers with PFAS remediation experience are among the most aggressively recruited and sponsored because the domestic talent pool with this expertise is extremely limited.
PE Licensure Opens Project-Level Responsibility
Professional Engineer licensure is required to stamp environmental reports and take project-level authority at engineering consultancies. Pass the FE exam early and pursue PE in environmental engineering to increase your salary by 15 to 25% and make employers significantly more willing to invest in sponsorship.
Energy Companies Sponsor for Environmental Compliance Roles
ExxonMobil, Chevron, Dow, BASF, and Shell sponsor environmental engineers for air quality permitting, wastewater treatment, and RCRA compliance at refining and chemical manufacturing facilities. These positions pay $90,000 to $140,000 and require specialized regulatory knowledge.
Water and Wastewater Treatment Is a Growing Niche
Municipal water utilities and engineering firms designing treatment systems for PFAS removal, lead service line replacement, and nutrient reduction need environmental engineers with process design expertise. Companies like Carollo Engineers, Brown and Caldwell, and HDR sponsor for water sector roles.
TN Engineer Category Works for Canadian and Mexican Applicants
The Engineer profession on the USMCA treaty list covers environmental engineering roles with no lottery and same-day border approval for Canadians. TN renews indefinitely in three-year increments, making it a viable long-term alternative to H-1B.
