INTRODUCTION
MathWorks is looking for a Cloud Solution Architect to serve as the primary technical point of contact for onboarding commercial and enterprise customers to our Private Cloud offerings. Private Cloud is a dedicated SaaS environment designed to combine the advantages of SaaS with enhanced control, security, and customization, including support for customers’ preferred cloud vendor and integration requirements.
In this role, you will lead technical discovery, translate customer requirements into a secure and scalable solution approach, and guide customers from initial onboarding through successful go-live. You’ll collaborate closely with product, platform, operations, and security stakeholders to deliver a smooth customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical onboarding journey for Private Cloud customers—from discovery through implementation readiness and go-live.
- Lead technical discovery workshops to understand customer requirements across identity, security, networking, integrations, compliance needs, and operational constraints.
- Create and communicate end-to-end solution designs, including diagrams and written guidance that make complex systems understandable to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Partner with MATLAB and Simulink Application Engineers (AEs) to ensure application-level onboarding is aligned to the target architecture and customer success criteria.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, engineering, security, and operations to unblock onboarding, improve repeatability, and influence roadmap priorities.
- Help scale Private Cloud adoption by building reusable onboarding patterns, reference architectures, and playbooks.
- This role is expected to exercise sound architectural judgment, advise customers on design tradeoffs, and influence internal standards and roadmap decisions based on real-world customer needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree and 10 years of professional work experience (or equivalent experience) is required.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Microsoft Azure
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in cloud architecture and enterprise systems (AWS, Azure, and/or comparable platforms).
- Strong understanding of enterprise security and identity concepts (e.g., SSO, IAM, authentication/authorization patterns), plus networking and system integration fundamentals.
- Demonstrated success in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., Solutions Architect, Technical Program Manager, Implementation Architect, Customer Engineer) leading complex onboarding or adoption projects.
- Ability to translate business goals and technical requirements into practical designs and implementation plans—and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
- Strong cross-team collaboration skills and comfort operating in a fast-moving environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with private cloud / isolated environments, regulated workloads, or compliance-driven deployments.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes ecosystems, infrastructure as code, observability/monitoring, and operational readiness practices.
- Background in platform engineering, developer platforms, CI/CD, or supporting technical computing / engineering workflows.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Cloud Solutions Architect
Lead with cloud platform certifications
AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud certifications directly strengthen your H-1B petition. USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims, and platform-specific credentials demonstrate the specialized knowledge that supports a degree-requirement argument for your role.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for Cloud Solutions Architect roles are far more likely to sponsor again. Prior filings signal an established immigration process, reducing delays and uncertainty on your end during hiring.
Clarify your cloud stack in your resume
Listing specific platforms, services, and architecture patterns signals genuine specialization. USCIS and employers both assess whether the role requires a specific degree field, so a vague resume hurts your petition and your chances of clearing initial recruiter screens.
Understand how L-1 transfers work
If you're currently employed by a multinational with U.S. operations, the L-1A or L-1B route may be faster and more certain than H-1B. An L-1B petition for specialized knowledge avoids the lottery entirely and can be filed year-round.
Expect additional RFE scrutiny on specialty occupation
USCIS sometimes issues Requests for Evidence on architect roles, questioning whether a bachelor's degree in a specific field is truly required. Your employer's attorney should document the technical complexity and provide a detailed support letter tied to your specific duties.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for visa-ready employers
Not every company listing a Cloud Solutions Architect role is set up to sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces jobs from employers already open to sponsorship, saving you from applying to roles that will stall at the offer stage over immigration logistics.

Does a Cloud Solutions Architect role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS generally accepts Cloud Solutions Architect as a specialty occupation because the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related engineering field. Roles where the job description specifies any degree will qualify are higher risk for an RFE, so the employer's support letter should document the technical complexity requiring that specific degree field.
What degree do I need for an employer to sponsor me as a Cloud Solutions Architect?
Most employers and USCIS expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a closely related field. A degree in an unrelated field can still work if you have substantial relevant coursework or a combination of education and experience, but it requires stronger documentation and increases RFE risk.
How do I find Cloud Solutions Architect jobs that offer H-1B sponsorship?
The cleanest approach is to focus on employers who have a documented history of sponsoring. Migrate Mate aggregates Cloud Solutions Architect roles from employers already open to visa sponsorship, so you're not wasting applications on companies that will decline at the offer stage. Large cloud-native companies and consulting firms tend to have mature immigration processes.
Can I transfer my H-1B if I move from one cloud architecture role to another?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as your new I-129 petition is filed, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a new petition, but you don't need to wait for approval before starting work, which significantly reduces the risk of employment gaps.
Is an L-1B a realistic alternative to the H-1B for Cloud Solutions Architects?
Yes, if your current employer has a U.S. entity. The L-1B is designed for employees with specialized knowledge, and a Cloud Solutions Architect with deep expertise in proprietary cloud infrastructure or internal platforms can be a strong candidate. It bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely, but you must have worked for the sponsoring employer abroad for at least one continuous year within the past three years.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Cloud Solutions Architect jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
