Target infrastructure and construction firms
Major construction companies like Bechtel, Fluor, and AECOM regularly sponsor structural engineers. Infrastructure projects require specialized expertise that qualifies for visa sponsorship under specialty occupation standards.
Emphasize PE license eligibility
Professional Engineer licensing requirements strengthen visa cases by demonstrating the role requires specialized engineering knowledge. Mention your EIT certification or plans to pursue PE licensure in applications.
Highlight specialized structural software skills
Proficiency in ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD, or Tekla strengthens sponsorship cases. These specialized engineering tools require advanced technical knowledge that supports the specialty occupation argument for visa petitions.
Apply to consulting engineering firms
Structural consulting firms like WSP, ARUP, and Thornton Tomasetti frequently sponsor engineers. These firms work on complex projects requiring advanced structural analysis that clearly justifies visa sponsorship.
Focus on seismic and wind design expertise
Specialized knowledge in seismic design, wind load analysis, or blast-resistant structures adds value for employers. This advanced expertise supports strong visa petitions by demonstrating specialized engineering requirements.
Consider federal contractor positions
Government contractors working on infrastructure projects often sponsor structural engineers. Security clearance eligibility can be valuable, though some positions may require citizenship for classified work.

Find Structural Project Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
What degree do I need for structural engineer visa sponsorship?
A bachelor's degree in structural, civil, or architectural engineering is typically required. Some employers accept mechanical engineering degrees with structural coursework or experience. The degree must be from an accredited program, and foreign degrees need credential evaluation for visa petitions.
How to find Structural Project Engineer jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Structural Project Engineer jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus on construction firms, engineering consultancies, and infrastructure companies that commonly sponsor H-1B, TN, and other work visas for structural engineers. These employers actively seek qualified engineers for bridge, building, and infrastructure projects requiring specialized expertise.
Do structural project engineers have good H-1B approval rates?
Yes, structural engineering positions have strong approval rates because they clearly meet specialty occupation requirements. The role directly correlates with engineering education, and employers can easily demonstrate the need for specialized knowledge in structural analysis, design codes, and safety standards.
Can Australian structural engineers use the E-3 visa?
Yes, structural project engineer positions qualify for E-3 visas as specialty occupations. You'll need a relevant engineering degree and a job offer from a U.S. employer. The employer must file a Labor Condition Application before you can apply at the consulate.
What about TN visa eligibility for structural engineers?
Canadian and Mexican structural engineers can use TN status under the "Engineer" category. You need a bachelor's degree in engineering and a job offer letter describing structural engineering duties. The position must require engineering knowledge and skills for TN qualification.
Do I need PE license for visa sponsorship?
No, Professional Engineer licensure isn't required for visa sponsorship, though it strengthens your case. Many structural engineer positions are entry to mid-level roles that don't require PE stamps. However, PE eligibility or EIT certification demonstrates advanced engineering qualifications that support visa petitions.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Structural Project Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
