How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Care Assistant
Target employers with a proven sponsorship history
Large nursing home chains and regional healthcare groups file sponsorship petitions far more consistently than small private facilities. Prioritize employers with multiple locations, as they typically have established immigration legal teams and are comfortable navigating the process.
Understand which visa category fits your background
Most Care Assistants pursue sponsorship through the EB-3 unskilled or skilled worker category, or H-1B if the role requires a bachelor's degree. Your education level and the specific job requirements determine which pathway your employer can support.
Get your credentials verified early
Many U.S. states require foreign-trained care workers to have certifications evaluated or equivalency confirmed before starting work. Starting this process before applying removes a common bottleneck that causes employers to withdraw offers at the last stage.
Look for roles that include state certification sponsorship
Some employers will sponsor your Certified Nursing Assistant credential as part of the hiring package. These roles are especially valuable because the employer invests before the visa petition, signaling genuine long-term commitment to sponsoring and retaining you.
Be upfront about your visa status and timeline
Care facilities plan staffing months in advance, so transparency about your current status and work authorization timeline helps employers decide quickly. Delaying this conversation often costs you the offer when the facility fills the role with someone immediately available.
Use Migrate Mate to find care roles open to sponsorship
Most general job boards mix sponsored and non-sponsored listings without distinction. Migrate Mate filters specifically for employers willing to sponsor, saving you from spending weeks applying to facilities that will decline the moment you mention visa requirements.

Do Care Assistant roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Most Care Assistant positions do not qualify for H-1B sponsorship because the role is generally not classified as a specialty occupation requiring a specific bachelor's degree. However, if the position is structured as a clinical or healthcare coordinator role with degree requirements, some employers have successfully filed H-1B petitions. EB-3 sponsorship is a far more common and realistic path for this job title.
What visa category do most sponsored Care Assistants use?
The EB-3 visa category covers both skilled workers (requiring at least two years of training or experience) and unskilled workers (requiring less than two years). Care Assistants often qualify under the unskilled or other worker subcategory, though PERM labor certification is required first. The full process, including PERM and the visa petition, typically takes one to three years depending on your country of birth.
Do I need a degree to get a Care Assistant job with visa sponsorship?
A degree is not required for most Care Assistant roles. Employers typically look for a high school diploma or equivalent, relevant caregiving experience, and in many states, a Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. However, having a degree in nursing, social work, or a health-related field can strengthen your application and open the door to higher-level roles with clearer sponsorship pathways.
Which types of employers are most likely to sponsor Care Assistants?
Larger long-term care chains, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies with high turnover are the most active sponsors for Care Assistant roles. They often have in-house HR familiar with immigration processes. Smaller private households or boutique care agencies rarely have the resources or legal infrastructure to sponsor a visa petition. Browse Migrate Mate to find facilities actively sponsoring this role.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Care Assistant position?
For EB-3 sponsorship, the process starts with PERM labor certification, which takes roughly six to eighteen months at the Department of Labor. After that, the employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS, and you may then need to wait for a visa number to become available, depending on your country of birth. Indian and Chinese nationals face significantly longer waits due to per-country backlogs.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Care Assistant jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
