Target companies with a history of LCA filings
Employers who have sponsored accountants before are far more likely to do it again. Large public companies, multinational subsidiaries, and Big Four accounting firms file Labor Condition Applications regularly and have established immigration processes already in place.
Lead with your CPA progress or licensure
CPA candidates and licensed CPAs get more sponsorship interest than unlicensed applicants. Employers see licensure as a signal of long-term value, which makes the cost and effort of sponsorship easier to justify, especially for roles requiring SEC reporting or audit sign-off.
Frame your degree field precisely in applications
USCIS requires your degree to match the role's field. A bachelor's in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline supports your petition cleanly. If your degree is in a broader field like business, be prepared for your employer's attorney to document the connection.
Understand the difference between H-1B and E-3 timelines
If you're Australian, the E-3 visa has no lottery and can be processed in weeks, a major advantage over H-1B. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, factor in the April lottery and October 1 start date when negotiating your offer and start timeline.
Highlight systems experience that's hard to replace
Employers are more willing to sponsor when replacing you is genuinely difficult. Proficiency in ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite, especially in the context of a specific industry or consolidation process, makes your profile distinctly harder to fill locally.
Be explicit about your visa status in outreach
Stating your visa situation upfront in cover letters or recruiter messages filters out sponsors who won't consider it and fast-tracks conversations with those who will. Ambiguity wastes time on both sides and delays offers from employers already open to sponsorship.

Find Corporate Accountant JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does corporate accountant qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, corporate accountant is well-established as a specialty occupation. USCIS recognizes that the role normally requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting or a directly related field. DOL LCA disclosure data consistently shows thousands of certified applications for this title annually, and approval rates for properly documented petitions are high. The key is ensuring the job description reflects duties that genuinely require that specific degree, not just general business knowledge.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor a corporate accountant?
Large public companies with SEC reporting obligations, multinational corporations with foreign parent entities, and Big Four or mid-tier public accounting firms sponsor corporate accountants most frequently. Financial services, healthcare systems, and technology companies also appear regularly in LCA filings for this role. Smaller private companies sponsor less often but do exist. Migrate Mate filters for verified sponsoring employers, which is the most efficient way to identify real opportunities without guessing.
Can I get sponsored as a corporate accountant without a U.S. accounting degree?
Yes, a foreign accounting degree is acceptable if it's equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. For most nationalities, a four-year degree meets this standard. Australian applicants should know that three-year Australian bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent for E-3 purposes. If your degree is in a related but non-accounting field, a credential evaluation and documentation of coursework may be needed to support the specialty occupation claim.
Does having a CPA license improve my chances of getting sponsored?
Meaningfully, yes. CPA licensure signals that you've met a rigorous professional standard, which strengthens the specialty occupation argument and demonstrates long-term retention value to the employer. Employers sponsoring for senior roles, financial reporting manager, accounting manager, assistant controller, increasingly prefer or require CPA credentials. Even being actively enrolled in the CPA exam process can positively differentiate your application when competing against candidates who aren't pursuing licensure.
What visa options are available for corporate accountants beyond the H-1B?
Australian citizens can use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery, no annual cap problem in practice, and can be processed in a matter of weeks through consular appointments in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under TN status, which covers accountants as a listed profession. Those with extraordinary professional recognition may explore the O-1A, though that's a high bar for most accountants. L-1 transfers are possible if moving within a multinational employer.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Corporate Accountant jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
