The Assistant Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of day-to-day operations on high-performance data center construction projects. Working under direct supervision, the Assistant Project Manager performs routine tasks focused on gathering, organizing, and distributing technical and logistical information to ensure seamless delivery of mission-critical infrastructure.
Primary Duties
- Reviewing and becoming familiar with project contract documents, specifications, and drawings, with emphasis on MEP systems, redundancy requirements, and commissioning protocols
- Participating in coordination meetings with trade partners, design teams, and client stakeholders to address labor, scheduling, and system integration concerns; taking minutes as required
- Providing field support to construction superintendents and project managers to ensure compliance with data center-specific standards
- Assisting in developing scopes of work for subcontractors, particularly those handling electrical, mechanical, and low-voltage systems
- Supporting constructability reviews with a focus on high-density cooling, power distribution, and fire suppression systems
- Attending preconstruction meetings with subcontractors prior to each phase of work, including white space buildouts and equipment installations
- Assisting with project close-out documentation, including commissioning reports, asset tagging, and turnover packages
- Coordinating punch list items and procedures with a focus on critical path systems and client readiness
- Assisting in estimating and bidding processes, tracking costs for MEP trades and long-lead equipment to maintain budget alignment
- Supporting development and maintenance of the site logistics plan, including laydown areas for generators, chillers, and switchgear
- Assisting with change management by soliciting, reviewing, and organizing quotations for IOCCs and Change Orders related to infrastructure upgrades
- Reviewing and distributing RFIs and submittals under supervision, with attention to lead times and system compatibility
- Documenting technical, financial, and personnel aspects of the project, including updates to commissioning schedules and equipment delivery logs
- Assisting in managing the permit process for electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems
- Demonstrating Yates Core Values and Principles in a high-performance, safety-first environment
- Following Yates Code of Conduct and contributing to a culture of accountability and excellence
Safety Responsibilities and Expectations
- Refusing unsafe work and adhering to Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices specific to data center environments

- Advising fellow employees of hazardous situations and participating in workplace inspections
- Complying with statutory requirements, including duty of care and OSHA standards
- Participating in assigned training, including lockout/tagout, arc flash awareness, and confined space entry
- Providing suggestions to improve safety and contributing to prestart and safety meetings
- Assisting with administration of the site safety program and ensuring Trade Partner compliance with Yates Site Specific Requirements and applicable codes
