Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Accounting Associate
Emphasize your degree alignment
Highlight how your accounting, finance, or business degree directly relates to the position. USCIS closely examines whether the educational background matches the job requirements for specialty occupation determination.
Target companies with established compliance needs
Focus on employers with complex financial reporting requirements, multi-state operations, or regulatory oversight. These companies more readily understand the specialty nature of accounting work and sponsor visas.
Highlight specialized accounting software experience
Mention proficiency in ERP systems, tax software, or industry-specific platforms. Technical expertise strengthens the argument that the role requires specialized knowledge beyond general business education.
Consider public accounting firms
CPA firms frequently sponsor visas for staff accountants and associates. They understand compliance requirements and often have established relationships with immigration attorneys for the sponsorship process.
Prepare for prevailing wage requirements
Research Department of Labor wage data for your location and experience level. Employers must pay the prevailing wage for the position, which varies significantly by geographic area.
Document any CPA exam progress
Progress toward CPA licensure demonstrates commitment to the profession and strengthens the specialty occupation argument. Include completed exam sections or state board applications in your materials.

Find Accounting Associate JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do accounting associates qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, accounting associate positions typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship when they require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. The role must demonstrate specialty occupation characteristics, such as financial analysis, regulatory reporting, or complex bookkeeping that requires specialized knowledge beyond general business skills.
How to find Accounting Associate jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Accounting Associate jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on accounting firms, financial services companies, and multinational corporations that commonly sponsor H-1B and other work visas. These employers often need accounting professionals for roles in financial reporting, bookkeeping, and accounts payable/receivable positions.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship as an accounting associate?
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration is typically required. The degree field must relate directly to the accounting work being performed. Some employers may accept closely related fields like mathematics or statistics if combined with relevant accounting experience.
Which visa types work best for accounting associate positions?
H-1B is most common for accounting associates, with E-3 available for Australians and TN for Canadians with accounting degrees. L-1 may apply for transfers within multinational companies. The choice depends on your nationality, the employer's willingness to sponsor, and the specific job requirements.
How do employers justify sponsoring entry-level accounting positions?
Employers demonstrate that the position requires specialized accounting knowledge, such as GAAP compliance, financial statement preparation, or tax regulation expertise. They must show the role involves complex duties that require formal accounting education rather than general administrative work.
What if my accounting degree is from outside the United States?
Foreign accounting degrees are acceptable but may require credential evaluation to confirm equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree. Some countries have different accounting standards, so employers may need to demonstrate that your education covers relevant U.S. accounting principles and practices.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Accounting Associate jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
