Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with P-3 Project Manager, as needed, in executing Kosasa Foundation’s Extended Learning Assessment and Planning for Public PreK project activities.
- Function as the local liaison between Hawai‘i P-20 Partnerships for Education and Kauai-based stakeholders, including HIDOE complex areas, the Executive Office on Early Learning, the Hawai‘i State Public Charter Schools, local Head Start programs, and community providers.
- Recruit and coordinate participation for 8-10 focus groups and interviews (statewide) involving parents, school administrators, and community-based child care providers.
- Assist and support the data collection and field research tasks in coordination with a contracted research and evaluation vendor, including
- Lead the distribution of parental demand surveys across Kaua‘i, ensuring a diverse representation of families (including Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, economically disadvantaged groups, and those in rural and remote areas).
- Utilize the Early Childhood Education and Care in Hawai‘i website (https://ecemaps.uhfamily.hawaii.edu/) to conduct physical and digital mapping of current licensed child care providers on Kaua‘i, identifying current capacities and opportunity to expand, as appropriate.
- Assist in the development of research instruments (surveys and interview guides) to ensure they are culturally appropriate and place-based.
- Assist with data analysis and reporting, including contributing and providing feedback on the feasibility study report.
- Co-present the findings to the key stakeholders, including Kaua‘i community and policymakers to build support for future pilot opportunities.
- Maintain detailed records of outreach efforts and participant data.
- Work independently without close supervision and performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in education, public administration, social sciences, or related fields and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible work experiences in program coordination and implementation; or equivalent education/training or experience.
- Working experience in convening and facilitating meetings with work groups consisting of multi-sector professionals.
- Familiarity with the Kaua‘i County community, including its geographic layout, school complexes, and early childhood landscape.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating a personal computer for word processing, presentations and spreadsheets.
- Experience in working with people from all backgrounds and abilities.
- Ability to compile and analyze data for reporting and summarizing outcomes.
- Excellent organizational, file management, analytical and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in community-based organizations, early childhood education programs, and/or elementary schools.
- Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity of the four early childhood settings in Hawai'i.
