Frequently Asked Questions
Do companies sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineering Managers?
Yes, at very high rates. Engineering management requires CS degrees and involves leading professional teams, making both H-1B visa and L-1A classification automatic. Google, Amazon, Meta, and thousands of companies sponsor routinely.
How to find Software Engineering Manager jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Software Engineering Manager positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers. Focus on tech companies, startups, and Fortune 500 firms that commonly sponsor H-1B, L-1 visa, and O-1 visas for senior technical leadership roles. Filter specifically for management positions requiring both technical expertise and team leadership experience.
What is the typical compensation for sponsored Engineering Manager roles?
Engineering managers at FAANG earn $280,000 to $520,000 with equity. Senior EMs earn $350,000 to $600,000. Directors of engineering earn $400,000 to $700,000.
What qualifications strengthen an Engineering Manager's sponsorship case?
A CS or software engineering degree is required. Prior individual contributor engineering experience demonstrates technical depth. Experience managing teams of 5+ engineers with demonstrated shipping velocity, retention, and technical quality differentiates you from non-technical managers.
Is H-1B or L-1A better for Engineering Manager sponsorship?
Both are strong. L-1A is often preferred because supervising professional engineers clearly meets managerial classification and bypasses the lottery. H-1B works well for direct hires at new employers.
What is the career progression for a sponsored Engineering Manager?
The path moves from EM to senior EM to director of engineering to VP of engineering to CTO. Directors at FAANG earn $400,000 to $700,000. VPs earn $500,000 to $900,000.
